Though comparison is limited at this point, the new version 3.2 DVD Shrink has proven better for higher compression loads. Initial testing with the large movie, Pirates Of The Caribbean, showed the improved program does as claimed. At levels over 30% the new program gives picture quality similar to the old version at low or no compression. How low before it breaks? The trade off for quality is in time. POTC took right at 2 hours with all options employed and burning at 4X.

The movie exhibited none of the compression problems that plaqued the older versions. No skipping and the picture was smooth. The new quality controls seem to do the job. Though the jury is still out, it appears Mr Shrink delivered the package he was trying for. Recording with larger movies are in the works. The new version is due out soon and is supposed to be basically the same as the beta.

If the quality is good, time doesn't matter. At least for me. POTC would have taken 3 to 31/2 hours with Rebuilder/CCE. We'll see, I wasn't one of the fortunate ones able to test the product.

I will add I trust your judgement, brobear. Still, it'll be nice to see for myself.

As I said, the jury is still out. The program worked much better than the previous version already. I just want to push it farther to see what happens in the epic size movies. Picture the current Shrink at low compression with the picture quality and then imagine that working in a high compression environment. I was working at just over 30% on the movie POTC and with good results (I used all the quality options). I don't know yet how it would work without everything being chosen. For the regular lower compression settings there is little or no difference.

So when can the public get a hold of DVD Shrink 3.2? I like DVD Shrink 3.1.7 and want to try 3.2 :(

3.2 is due any day. There is just a slight mod to get the program to work better with FAT32 was my understanding. ddlooping may correct me if I'm wrong here. You won't see a lot of change from the older version. It's slower to get the better quality at higher compression. The quality options are minor setting changes that improve the quality for higher compression. Appears to work. There won't be much difference unless you're pushing to above 25 to 30% compression load or higher.

I'm interested in the new feature that will ouput a split iso file. Would you be able to do some testing to see if I would be able to output a split iso file on a fat32 file system and see if dvd dycriptor will burn the movie.

Can't help much there. The beta is incomplete as far as the FAT32 support. Another problem is I have NTFS, which means I couldn't test it anyway. A person will have to wait for the completed FAT32 mods to come and have it installed in a FAT32 system to see how it works. ddlooping is more familiar with the development than I am, so if you run across him you might ask the question of him. He started a new thread, but I'm not sure of the location.
