Hey folks, I have a question for yall.
First-off...I have a 2.8G P4 (800 FSB), 80G hard drive, 1G memory, the new Plextor 712A DVD burner, Win XP Home, and the DVD X Copy platinum.
I just purchased the platinum series DVD X Copy (V 4.0.3.8.) earlier today, and it's been alot of trouble!!
When I initially installed it, all was well as far as installations go. (I had not burned anything at this time). But when I rebooted my machine, my internet connection was lost. It took me two hours of "process of elimination" to figure-out that my network drivers had been corrupted and disabled with the initial installation.
So I removed all the DVD X Copy Platinum (DXCP) program, and reinstalled my network drivers.
After my network driver had been reinstalled, I reinstalled the DXCP program again...minus the DVDXRescue program. (I won't be using it, and since it "may have been" the cause of the corrupted network driver, I decided to play it on the safe side and not install it).
I've done a few things that I've read about on a few forums (like a few of the items on the software blacklist), but I still can't seem to copy any of my personal DVD's.
Everything starts-off OK...but then at 89% of the original DVD reading, it lock's-up on me. Each time this happens, I need to press "Con>Alt>Del" to close the non-responding program.
I've tried this three times. I've even deleted the HP DLA, Roxio Drag-to-Disc, and turned-off my McAfee anti-virus while burning...all to no avail. All my drivers are up to date, and I am scratching my head on this one.
I must admit, I have NEVER used this type of software before; and I am "assuming" that I have a "ripper version"...or are these symptoms caused by having a "non-ripper" version, and do I need to download one of those freeware CCS decryptors for my version to work?
Sorry folks, but I'm so new to this, and this is the first time that I have had any serious problems with software of any type.
Thanks for your ears. I'll drop by a little later to see what yall may have to say.
Thanks.
In Christ: Raymond

Hello compact45, Welcome to Afterdawn.
Did you purchase XCopy with a disc, or did you have to download the program? And this is a first that I've seen, where XCopy disables your network connections.

Dear Flip218,
I purchased the packet with disc at the computer show this Saturday. (It was brand new, and still sealed within the box).
I tried again last nite to burn a DVD (thinking that maybe it WASN'T locking-up, and that maybe I was not giving it enough time)...but when I woke-up this Sunday morning, it had something like, "ERROR OCCURED" displayed on the screen.
Do you think I need to make a new temporary folder like it was suggested on one of the other forums? Or do you think that maybe I need to adjust the amount of space that can be used on my temporary folder?
I'm still scratching my head on this one!!
And as a side note...are you the guy who posted that you worked for 321, and was very disappointed in the way their company was structured, as well as the quality of their products? (I didn't read that post until AFTER I had purchased the software, as I probably would not have prchased it if I read it before-hand).
But at $75.00, I thought it was a steal!
Thanks. I'll pop in a little later to see if you have any new suggestions for me. In the meantime, I will continue to try different things to get it to work.
In Christ: Raymond

It's a steal for XCopy Platinum, but when you can get DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter for free ... makes you wonder :)

No, if you re-read the thread I'm thinking of ... Someone(A MOD, cause only MOD's can edit other peoples posts) edited my post. If you read it, at the top of the post, in bold, it says "this is not written by flip218". But I left it alone since alot of good info in that post.

Is your system running NTFS file system? I also wonder if you were sold a trial version. Try and download a new copy of Platinum v4.0.3.8 and try see if it will work.

Thanks folks!
I went to the link that "Flip218" attached, and downloaded the latest version of "DVD X Copy Platinum," and tried again...and it still didn't work. It locked-up again at 89% of reading the original DVD.
So now I'm wondering if I should download DVD Shrink, or DVD Decrypter.
Are they compatable with my program? If my program already has a bult-in CCS decrypter, will one of these new ones overwrite it?
And lastly...what is a NTSF file system? Can you walk me through the steps to see if'n I have one?
Thanks again for all your help.
I'll await a response from yall BEFORE I try to download a new CCS decrypter. By the way, which would you recommend - the DVD Shrink, or the DVD Decrypter?

you use them together. DVD Shrink compresses the dvd, then use DVD Decrypter to burn it. Are you having the problem with 1 specific movie or any one you try?

I've NEVER tried anything else. (Read my initial post). I J-U-S-T installed it on Saturday, and have not been able to get it to work!!
I place the original DVD in the DVD burner to read it...and it "freezes-up" at the 89% point of the reading. (I have never gotten past that point to be able to install a blank DVD+R).

I asked if you were using NTFS, because DVD Decrypter will only burn ISO's and a fat32 file system can't handle files over 4GB. To check Open "my computer", right click your local disk and select properties.
Can you post a XCopy error log? Go into your local disk -> programs -> 321studios folder -> platinum -> then logs.
Another thing you can try is update your aspi layer:
http://wombleintheuk.tripod.com/Final/ForceASPI/ForceASPI.htm Use v1.8, if it's unavailable use v1.7

Flip218,
here's an update on my situation.
The very first (and only DVD ) I had placed into my DVD burner to copy was an anime series made in Taiwan. (In case you didn't know, anime are Asian-style cartoons - pronounced "A-ni-may").
Anyways, I decided to try copying a DIFFERENT DVD just for the heck of it, and "Lo and Behold"...it worked!!!
It was a 90-minute movie; and I read it, burned it, and verified it, in just under 45-minutes!! (As well as all the trailers, subtitles, and interactive stuff, etc...). That's pretty fast compared to my buddies DVD copying equipment. The quality was also sharp and clear, and the 5.1 surround-sound worked perfectly.
I also created a new folder which I aptly named "TEMP DVD MOVIES". I then directed all the DVD's being "read" to be downloaded into this new file, which will then be burned onto the DVD+R.
So here's my assessment of the situation:
Original anime purchased in the USA have about 3 or 4 chapters installed in each DVD. (Each chapter contains about 4 short stories). But some of the anime purchased from overseas have as many as 8 to 10 chapters. (That's around 45 short stories which get CRAMMED into each DVD). So maybe I have to learn to play with the COMPRESSION features on the "DVD X Copy Platinum" to be able to read and burn all the chapters.
I don't know. I'm still not sure yet, as I am still a "newbie" to all this stuff as I mentioned before.
I'm also still debating whether I should install the "DVDXRescue" that came with the package. (Have any of you installed it and used it)? The article "I THOUGHT" you wrote kinda scared me about all the "321 products". (And the last thing I wanted to do was install some "ca-ca software" that doesn't work too well, and has the capability of doing more damage than good).
So to end, I have three more questions:
1) Have any of yall had to play with the compression feature to be able to copy a foreign-made DVD? (Like the ones I mentioned above). I have a few series that I wish to copy. (Trigun, Cowboy BeBop, Grappler Baki, Rouroni Kenshin, Samurai Deeper Kyo, etc...).
Boy...I sure wish this "DVD X Copy Platinum" program came with instructions!!
2) What is an "aspi layer"? I also saw this mentioned on another post...went to the link that they had attached (ADAPTEC)...but didn't find anything with the name "aspi layer".
Could you explain what this is to me, as well as maybe talk me through the process so that I can decide if I need it or not.
3) Do any of you guys own this product,(DVD X Copy Platinum), and do you like it? I knew that I could download the FREEWARE stuff before I purchased this product, but I just like the cnvenience of having everything put together in one packet, and working in sync. (I'm not too hard-up for the shekels).
Thanks again, yall. I REALLY, REALLY, appreciated all the help, links, and "right hand of fellowship" yall extended to me.
If I have any more questions in the future, I'll know where to go.
Kudos!!!!!!!!!
In Christ: Raymond

It's never hurts to install a "working" aspi layer. The aspi layer tells your drive what to do and what to do it with. I would install ForceASPI v1.8:
http://wombleintheuk.tripod.com/Final/ForceASPI/ForceASPI.htm if v1.8 is unavailable use v1.7
Quote: Do you guys own this product,(DVD X Copy Platinum), and do you like it?
XCopy Platinum was the first dvd backup software I tried. I use v4.0.4.15RF along with 321rip. You really should get the RF(ripper free version). With the RF version the browse button works(in this version only) so your able to burn movies(video_ts files) that are saved to your hd. To get Platinum RF, you'll have to e-mail support@321studios.com ... Give them your current license and password, and ask them to issue you a new ripper free license. Then once you've installed RF, get 321rip, which will turn the RF version back into a ripper.
I haven't backed up any anime(which I know what it is :-) lol), but I know people have had problems with them. If it's really that big, you could try using DVD Rebuilder(free) with CCE Basic($58), which is by far the best for long movies. I'll ask some of the "experts" if Rebuilder w/ CCE basic works well with anime dvd's.

Sly61019,
that is definitly a possibility!! (That the Taiwanese-made DVD was of poor quality). But I must also say that it looks good, sounds good, and gives me the choice of language or subtitles that I want to use. (Lots of information contained within each DVD).
As a matter of fact, I just tried reding it again, and it boasts 7.22GB of information on it.
Ouch!!
Can you direct me someplace that gives me a little information on how to use the COMPRESSION feature I have? I remember seeing it someplace, but now I'm too tired to look for it. (If you have it "on hand"...cool. But if you have to look for it...never mind. Let "ME" waste my time looking for it).
I'm still trying to figure-out what this "aspi layer" is. If it has to do with ADAPTEC, I believe it might be some type of file format.
Thanks!

Flip218...
with a name like that, "I KNEW" you had to be Filipino!! Ha ha ha. (I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area, and we have a HUGE Filipino population).
I also have alot of space on my machine (80G's of hard drive), so I'll try to install the "Force ASPI" a little later. (Thanks for the tip).
And lastly, one of the reasons that I purchased this specific version (v4038), was because the "ripper feature" was still included in the software. I have heard that the newer RF versions had nicer "tools"...but I wanted to really keep the "ripper feature".
But now that you're telling me they will give me the "RF version update" for FREE, and I can still make it "rippable" (is that a legitimate word?)...I may just jump on it.
But where would I go to get the "321rip" program to make it "rippable" again? Is is freeware?
If so, let me know. (You can send me a personal link if you like).
Thanks!!! (Boy...this is sounding too good to be true).

Flip218,
here's a courtesy follow-up of my situation as of Tuesday, the 20th:
I e-mailed "321 studios" this weekend after we spoke, but they never answered my request to issue me a new Platinum RF license.
So after waiting till Tuesday (today), I decided to personally call them. And when I did, I selected "option #1". (CUSTOMER SUPPORT). The answering machine said that due to the high volume of calls, there would be over a 1/2-hour wait, and they would be unable to take my call.
Then it hung-up on me.
Hmmmmm.
Maybe if I chose "option #2" (SALES), they would answer the phone. "Sho nuff"...I waited less that 30-seconds till a salesperson answered my call.
I then told him of my situation (having an old RIPPER version, and wanting a newer RF version license)...and he was really nice about it. In under 20-seconds he told me that my new license had been issued, and all I had to do was go to their website, type in my license number, and download the newer version.
Totally cool!!
Let me also say that I was told that I did not need to uninstall the older version. He said the newer RF version would work "WITH" the older one.
So after hanging-up with him, I went straight to their website, "Logged-In," and downloaded the new RF version. (V4.0.4.15).
No problems whatsoever.
Then I went to the "other" website...downloaded the "321rip"...and attached it to run with the newer RF Platinum version.
Wa-La...no problemo!!
As far as I know, it's all working flawlessly. I also noticed what you were saying about the newer RF version having the option to "BROWSE" for files that I want burned. (Cool).
Here's another thing I noticed: at the beginning of the newely-burned DVD, you DON'T get the "DVD-BACKUP" sign that states, "You are viewing an archival backup copy created solely for the private and personal use of the owner of the DVD, etc..".
Sweet. Keeps the newely-burned DVD cleaner looking.
I don't know if the "321rip" is working or not...but I guess if I ever have problems ripping something in the future, I'll know for sure. (Ha ha). But at this writing, I have burned two other DVD's with no problem.
Thanks again, Flip218.

compact45,
Thanks for the follow up. I'm glad your up and running. Now since XCopy is working for you, I suggest you try DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter(both free), if you haven't already.
P.S. Have you tried any anime movies? Any success?

Flip218,
I don't understand. Why would I want to try "DVD Shrink" and "DVD Decrypter" if I already have "X Copy Platinum"??!!
They all do the same thing, don't they?
As for your question...so far I have successfully burned my complete anime collection of "Cowboy Bebop" (the TV collection and the movie), as well as the Anime, "Spriggan".
I tried to burn my "Trigun" collection (which is the one that I was initially unable to do), but still couldn't get it to read past the 89%-mark.
But now that I have the newer RF version (as well as the "321rip" program), I'll give it a second shot.
I'll let you know if'n it worked or not.
Thanks again!!!

thanks for the suggestion to "learn different ways to back-up DVD's...but I think that I've had enough!! (Ha ha).
I'm OK with this one program I have; but I will save the other's in case I need them in the future. (I've downloaded them and saved them onto a disc; but then I deleted them from my hard drive).
As for the Anime, "Trigun"...well...it's still a "No Go"!
I just recently tried it again, but it "froze-up" at the 89%-mark again.
I think it's because of the way it was initially burned. Usually a DVD has many different "TITLES". (Some have up to 10-titles). But this "Trigun" DVD has about 45-different stories...BUT ONLY ONE TITLE!
And I think because of that, it makes it unable for my copy program to read it effectively.
Either way, thanks for all the help...
and stay away from that "Balut"!! (Ha ha ha).
In Christ: Raymond
