You have any actual concerns to back up that sort of thinking up? It's a high powered android box that connects directly to your tv with a wireless controller. The groundwork for software availability is already in place.. what else could anyone ask for?

Smartphones already have a reasonably easy time playing PS1, Genesis, NES/SNES/N64, Game Gear, Sega Master System, and many other emulators, with no gaming specialization and less power, on average, than the Ouya; the console should have no trouble playing quite good games. It's also only $100. I want one for myself, FFS, and I haven't owned a console since the PS1.
I'm already sold on the gaming, and the fact that it is specifically sold as an open, hackable system is freaking priceless. Hell, even with no hardware hacking, it'll be a quite capable HTPC. That'll do, even if it DIDN'T play games!
This kind of attempt to fulfill the customers' wishes deserves to be rewarded; I figure around $100 from me ought to do it. =)
The Ouya is also already in production, so you might as well notch the Cassandra bit back a couple.

I'm looking forward to mine. I have my expectations low initially as I think we are kind of beta testers for the main release date. They have asked us for feedback. That's not a bad thing tho. I want this new system/environment to succeed. Ironically it really doesn't matter exactly how powerful it is... just simply if it hits popular critical-mass... then it will do great things. So get behind it, don't fence-sit, what have you got to lose... $100?
Funny, even when major names like Kellee Santiago joins the crew the naysayers still go "but my tablet..."
On another note, everyone (inc. Linus Torvalds) whinges how they love the Raspberry Pi "but it's not quite as powerful as I'd like it". Well hack one of these cheap-ass buggers then... it even comes with it's own remote control heh.
Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

It will be big. People will make piracy movie streaming options and every person will buy one . Whoever makes a good remote for it will be rich

It's not gonna be just for emulation Zip. And new game code written especially for it would/could/should be optimised just like on other consoles.

Sadly when I can do everything on the PC and msot games will be on steam theirs nothing worth while about it, when it becomes a real threat to AA gaming and has exclusive titles then maybe around the 2nd one it will be worth wasting time on. Do not get me wrong the PS4Next box are as bad they are just bad in different ways. And Nin is still in la la land.......

The Ouya is gonna do fine...The console is significantly cheaper than a full-fledged console, plus its open-sourced so developers and even people at home can create good games for it, and it really small so it can fit anywhere. What's NOT to like about it??

No worth while games that can not be done on a PC everyone already has?

But not everyone has, or can afford, a PC in every place an Ouya can be. In my opinion, it's a GREAT console for a young teen. Then let 'em hack the crap out of it, if they want...
There's already a proven market for the generic Android games the Ouya will be able to run, much less those written especially for the platform.
I think a lot of people are missing the fact that the Ouya is really Google's Nexus Q at a sixth the price, with an already-established software base, easy hackability, and a bonus controller =) .

Yes and no, most everyone has a PC that can play most steam games so spending 100$ more on it all is moot. So meh. :P

Steam is nowhere near the "Alpha and Omega" of video gaming, nor will it ever be. That's not a useful argument.

Damn straight! What's more, it's a structured market environment to encourage this. Many don't look at OUYA as a whole. Sure, it's potentially hog-heaven for tinkerers but much more.
However, the OUYA will need kick-ass exclusives to sway the naysayers and fence-sitters. They'll start off a bit lame initially then will explode in sophistication as the community grows. And, take note ye naysayers, they don't have to be absolutely 100% exclusive... being released first on OUYA should be enough.

They put up the price of extra controllers but it's still $99.99 everywhere. Ok, they raised it by 99 cents! :)
http://shop.ouya.tv/
(I checked all the other places they had it for pre-order too... same)
What it cost me as a backer: $99 console + $30 extra controller + $20 international postage = $149 Total.

Are you butthurt over the OUYA after buying your computer and PS3? All you seem to be able to do is invalidly speculate about things and doubt prices that are pretty much set in stone. I repeat.. if you have any actual concerns that aren't simply based on your own ignorance perhaps you should post them so that a real discussion can take place. :)

my computer works for what i want it to and i have no regrets about my ps3.I even have a spare $100 lying around if i wanted the ouya.if you need reasons to why it will fail do a google search ( i even did 1 myself).without a time machine we do not know if it will be a success or not.hopefully in a few months you we can look back on my posts and either prove me wrong or agree that i was right.just annoys me the amount of confidence people have in a game system they have not even seen.

I've seen the whiny blog posts and the story on forbes, but none of this really solidifies the idea that OUYA will fail. They exceeded their kickstarter goal 9 fold and already have preorders going through a number of websites (it would be really interesting to see the numbers) and stores. All of this tells a completely different story than the google search you seem to preach by. As for not seeing the thing.. backers (should) and developers already have them inhand and they are functional to the intended specs. Do a youtube search if you need to see this console you're so suspect over.

Your annoyance at people having positive expectations for the Ouya does not, in fact, infer any logical reason for it to fail. I can use your (and ZippyDSM's) exact same arguments for every other console ever made, after all; you cannot point to any specific console game and say, "That cannot be done on current PC hardware." Yet, those consoles have succeeded, often spectacularly.
I brought up emulation because it's one of the more difficult tasks that a system can perform. If I can run emulated console games on a smartphone, then there's plenty of power for games and other programs specifically written for the system. This is even more true for the Ouya, which is a game console first, and has no other tasks preassigned to it.
As for searching for why the Ouya may fail, you should be aware you can find just as many links as for why it may succeed. While it may annoy you that folks are positive about the Ouya, I'd say that's also a sign of coming success.

I suppose you're wondering why the Raspberry Pi is doing so well too?

Hear hear Bozobub, I think there is an expression for the highly vocal negative minority. Like how the luna-right in the US was absolutely certain Obama would get voted out after all their arguably treasonous white-anting. It's really easy to be negative but, let's face it, money talks and the ultimate indicator is the backing OUYA raised on KS.
I'll tell you why I backed this project... the names involved. There are well know folks that have real credentials getting behind this. People who gave good reasons for why they were behind it. Do a search on them!
I also willing to bet that a fair percentage of that neg comments search considered it a hoax or fraudulent.
Y'know, it's because I have most of the consoles and a kick-ass PC that I think the OUYA is a fine idea... and I'm not the only one.

Mmmmmmmm I dunno if it has a niche yet and thats the problem if a few people buy the hardware then abandon the console for their tablets,Ipods,PCs old game consoles, new game cosnles, then what is the point?
It has zero power/draw behind it other than being "INDIE". That basically tells me its a loss, add on to it I as a PC/console owner have ZERO reason to get another mini PC to run steam games on, and even if it did have exclusive titles that alone defeats the perpuse of it being INDIE..... it just makes little sense at this point and time.
Its pertinacious wankery on the same level of the PS3/PS4 and to a lesser extent 360 with all its launch problems.

Them's fightin' words lol.
Can't see the point of a cheap standardised Android platform console?... tsk.
At least game developers seem to get it.

Is so cheap that everyone has it in their phone.... and other than techies no one else would want it, its kinda the opposite direction of the insanity of the PSX60 debacles.
And all in all they have the same hill to climb one just wastes billions on trekking it while the Ouya has little to lose comparatively speaking.
I'm trying to like it but its a very small boat in the middle of a hurricane and the PS4 ain't much bigger....but sadly the world will stop what they are doing and rally together to save Sonys sinking ship...........
