I have installed Bit Torrent about a week ago. I have internet connection through Direcway Satellite. I have disabled my xp firewall and gained no speeds. So, I then configured the ports entering 6881-6999!! Still, I am getting the yellow light with 0-2 kb/s. My upload is 2-6 kb/s. I tried entering my gateway ip but says FAILURE TO CONNECT TO WEB SERVER. I leave Bit Torrent running for over a day to see if it helped and it didn't. I have alot of seeds and peers. I have read almost everything trying to figure this thing out. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP.

I'm also on Direcway and have the same exact problems. From all my research on the matter the best conclusion I have come to is the built in firewall in the DW6000 modem blocks certain ports and sometimes certain programs. As far as the other modems I have no clue. There's a rumor going around that Direcway blocks most known p2p file sharing programs from getting access beyond NOC (Network Operations Center). Kinda makes sense because it's well known they block you from browsing certain websites.

You're supposed to have access to your own Router's built in firewall.... try enabling DMZ if you have access to the firewall. It helps on a lot of problems.

neckbone, right after I first posted lastnight I did some lookin around and found a BT client that works decent on Dway. It caught my eye because it's Java based. I tried it with 3 different torrents to get the same results- 25-35kb/sec downloads with the uploads doing around the same until I limited it to 10kb/sec. Not very fast by Dway standards, but it's way better than Dway on BT normally.
here's the link http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

LOL, it's not a Java Based, it's an actual program.... called Azureus. The only thing that's java based is the site you have to pay for BT Links special to Azureus.

Thanks for the info. Anyway, I have had Direcway for a year and it is terrible. It started out okay, but now its almost like dial-up. They now offer DSL in my area, so I am canceling Direcway.

Man, I wish I could say the same about DSL or Cable in my area! Dway is the biggest mistake I've ever made.. They lure you in with talk about 500kb/sec downloads, when it's really normally around 250kb/sec and that's only on good days.. They don't bother to tell you about FAP (Fair Access Policy) which is where they slow you down to dialup speeds if you download over 170mb in 4 hours! I spent 3 weeks with no service because Customer Support didn't know what to do. I could go on and on, but there's too much to say.

And they're the only internet providers in your area? Why don't you give them a call and threaten them.

They're the only broadband ISP in my area. Calling them don't help, you get some rag head on the phone that barley understands English and is apparently told to sit there and get yelled at and ignore complaints and never never let the customers speak to a supervisor. Atleast that's how it's been pretty much every time I've called.

That is a major problem. Ever thought about signing a petition? If you actually cause just a little trouble, the ISP will probably give you some "benefits"

Thought I'd ad a little. Had Direcway for 1 month worst money I ever spent. They couldn't even fix the thing when it went down. They lure you in and then want to charge an incredible amount of money for something that doesn't work very well . Switched to cable and the world is a brighter place. Hope you guys can switch. (you can get Juno dial up working at 115 kbps) good luck.

the 115 kbps is the port speed, not the actual speed. But after experiencing dway, any dialup is better for the simple reasons of cost and that it actually works when you want to get online!

For Direcway & DirecPC users.
Been a direcway 2 way customer for over a year now.
At times I did not think I would make the year contract I had to sign... They play down the FAP till they gottch... Then, well u know.
Like to download large files. I stay in the yes all the time. they cut me down or off. I call and make them give me a credit for the down time. :)
I figure I can dl 1 GB a day an not trip the wire.
add it up.
Check this page out http://winpcap.polito.it/
FAP Monitor Version 1.10 This is the original version of FAP Monitor. This software runs on your computer and monitors your bandwidth consumption and alerts you when you are reaching the FAP threshold, allowing you to avoid triggering it. The software is customizable and a must for all DirecWay & DirecPC users.
I just dl and installed the program ... I had trouble with the latest verison so went back to 3.0
IT IS A FREE PROGRAM!
Think I'm gonna like it already...

So what you're saying is that this program monitors your bandwidth and make sure it doesn't go over a certain bandwidth amount that will trigger an alert to the ISP?

I only just started using the program... The help or support address in my version 1.10 Host it's self
is: www.copperhead.cc (or) www.copperhead.cc/?fapmon
as it said when I got there...
I want to know all I can about the program. I have some questions my self.
there are also some tweaks, faster better type stuff for Direcway and DirecPC...
Not advertising the site, or the program as the program is free.
I have been looking for this for over a year now. I was so happy to find something I wanted to share the news. I was told there was no such thing by some knowing ppl. Is there a way to upload to afterdawn?

forgive re post. I dunno how to edit my post.
FAPMon 2.5a is running and doing good... It is like a count down from the total to a red FAP warning. like a gas tank, also gives a transfer rate in KBps and kbps. count down is in MBytes. I like it, so far so good. I do not think it gives you a sound type warning, darn :) would like a siren with sound maxed.
If you have DW or DPC you know how snoby they can be whe you are in FAP.

I'm using a little program called SatSpeed2.1 for Direcway and DirecPC Satellite
www.copperhead.cc/satspeed.html
it is not a free program but it helps a lot if you want to check it out. It along with FAPMon2.5a has made a big difference in preformance.

You guys should let the FTC know what your experiencing. It sounds like it's a direct violation of their contract with you. I know the FTC has been probing these guys for about 9 months now. You can go to ftc.gov\consumer and file a complaint.

we have to agree with the FAP in order to get service.
didn't read the darn thing. it is the only place in town so to speak so if you want it you have to agree. DSL will get here some day and when they do I have already told them they were out of here.

I use Direcway also and it does suck. The speeds go to dial up all the time.It never reaches the max speed of 500kb like they suggest.I wish I never got into the agreement with DWay,but it is the only high speed internet I can get in my area.If dsl or cable was in my area I would switch in a heart beat.I also talked to numerous internet suppliers asking when they will get dsl or cable in the area, but none of them will tell me if they will have it or they give me the answer we are never gonna get it,which sucks.I think the actual modem Directway is the cause of the speeds, but I could be wrong.I would like to switch the modem out and see if it is the modem that actually sucks, but it is not a bad idea.I think I will check out that program you mentioned Arnold2 I can't stand my speeds and I pay out the arse for this service also.If the program works I would be happy with it.I am just trying to get a average speed of cable or dsl not dial up all the time.
