Just got a new Dell Dimension 4600 w/ P4 3Ghz w/HT and ALL bittorrent clients are locking up my whole PC, forcing a hard re-boot, minutes after a download starts. Running Win2K. Any ideas?

Could be because of some settings on your computer or that the "client" isn't compatible with Win2k.

Hi,

I have had the same problem and I run XP Pro.

I used BitTorrent initially and got great download speeds, 55kbs+ on a 512 kb adsl line. After a few minutes my PC would just crash and reboot. This happened several times.

I then downloaded Azureus and Shareza to try.

Shareza did the same but Azureus would last longer before crashing so persevered with Azureus. I did all the usual stuff like clear all the background progs with little effect.

I stumbled across a message saying my virtual memory was very low (this co-incided with my PC being extremely sluggish.

I increased my virtual memory settings and this seems to have cured the problem (touch wood). I also throttled my download speed to 40 kb/s.

Hope this helps.
