Mozilla has initiated what is called Project Mortar and aims to replace the current plugins with a new solution. It hopes to decrease the cost of development and maintenance of Firefox. One of the ways is using other browsers' solutions and the company is already experimenting by porting a couple popular ones. What made Firefox popular in the 1st place was "generic plugin support". FF's devs' burning desire to turn the browser into a clone of Chrome is duly noted and rejected, thenkyew.

Agreed; if I wanted to use Chrome, I'd just use Chrome.

exactly, I still use Firefox only just for the plug-ins but Chrome is my default browser.
