x360key announced!

Running a custom Linux system, x360key is capable of immaculately emulating the optical disk drive in Xbox 360, allowing you to play all your Xbox 360 (and Xbox 1) games from any USB media. It is compatible with all Xbox 360 models, both Fat and Slim, and offers advanced features such as emulation of the AP25 protection.

just to add a little more info I have confirmed this to be real through my sources, This is a dvd drive Emulator it does not allow homebrew. This is great news and a great new product but it is not a replacement for the JTAG hack.

Here's my thought .... I have been flashing drives for several years now and could pretty much do them in my sleep. However if this device actually sees the light of day, I will be one of the millions purchasing it! I can't wait until the pre-order page is active!!

mmmmmm...... sweet..... a way for non jtag consoles to run games discless from an usb harddrive. if this works, and gets not circumvented by microsoft with a dashboard update, i will definitely buy one.
i am just wondering if this also is a solution for consoles that do not have a matching dvd key anymore....

Yea, I was wondering if it interacts with the DVD drive to replicate the key or pulls it from the console itself.
Also, a dashboard may render this useless. Let's hope that it also works with the new disk format.
Looks REALLY good. If everything goes well and seems safe, I will be investing in one.

From what I understand it is from the same team as the WODE. And if so then it's definitely legit. I bought a WODE for the wife's Wii back at launch and absolutely love it, thought it was expensive. If I recall right, I paid around $130 for it.
Many will jump in stating that if the price is too expensive then they'll stick to cheap discs. If you're one of those people you may want to think your comment through.
Drive emulation is 1:1 (an exact copy of the disc). Disc backups will never be 1:1 (leads to being banned from LIVE). Also, rumors state new games may not fit on to dl's in the future.
And before this thread runs wild with a bunch of "what if" posts, remember this is a DISC DRIVE EMULATOR.
You won't run homebrew.
You won't revive a drive-less 360.
You won't be able to jtag a console.

Just read that it's not from the WODE team. It's from those who made the drivekey, wiikey, and ps3key. But none the less, that atleast shows that it's still from a legit team.

they have to consider the face unless they release more information there is stil a high level of doubt whether this x360key is legit or not

OzModChips is a Australian based mod shop that was the first to prove to the world that the PS Jailbreak was infact the real deal, well today through their twitter account we get some news on the new X360Key

It "may" be too expensive...but then again, if this drive is capable of truly providing 1:1 disc copy emulation, handling the new disc format (which is a big problem right now since no writers or media can handle the size of a game disc), and also capable of eluding microsoft security checks...then it's competitively priced.
edit **But you know, 99 bucks is a nice number too. I think they would sell like hotcakes at this price...and I'm sure they could sell enough of them to make a nice profit. On top of that, it will not take too long to reverse engineer the technology and the copycats will come along soon enough...just like with the ps3 solution they came out with. Sell em reasonably, profit while you can, establish brand name recognition and you'll garner more business over time with dedicated customers.**
"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

I dunno $150.00 nz seems a bit on the steep side once it's in full production how much is it to make me wonders,actually it maybe even dearer since there's no telling what the shipping & markups there's going to be on it once it gets to our shores,not that it matters it'll sell out in no time,i'll wait till it drops to 50 bux nz yeah i'm a cheap bastard..lol..
