I know this might be a dumb question but, can I play online safely when I do this? By "safely" I mean as safe as possible with a modded system.

I am sure a better workaround will be released. You may need to clear system cache

not sure how this one is worked?
i tried to do this and i cleared my cache.
no joy although when i do boot the xbox with the USB Stick in it does say "An update is available for this game" where it doesnt if the stick isnt in..
then if i cancel / agree to it, it boots the game off to a "disc not supported"
any suggestions?
PS: I just copied and pasted the file onto memory stick and put into the front of the xbox and then booted the game and still gets error?
FIXED: See next post!

Hi guy's, ok after digging around, i've found a solution and will compile a step-by-step for people who may be in the same situation as me (newbie to usb and xbox360)!
(Taken from afterdawn website via this thread, xbuc and pothsprojects)
How do I get those updates on my XBOX 360 console?
Update your XBOX 360 console to the latest dashboard version
Get yourself an usb stick with at least 1GB capacity
Format it as a XBOX 360 Memory Unit on your XBOX 360 console via 'Dashboard/System/Storage'
Connect your usb stick to your PC
Download the TU file for MW3 HERE
Download HORIZON HERE
Unzip both files and add to desktop (or somewhere of your choice for now)
Run HORIZON
Drag and Drop TU file onto HORIZON window
On the MW3 dialog that appears, click Save To Device and then select device (which is your USB)
Insert USB into xbox360 and play MW3!

Side note:
On the xbuc website there is plenty of information if you check the FAQs

hi mate,
yeah i know its not any different, however when i clicked the link it wasnt 100% noob friendly,
i didnt realise that i had to format the memory stick to xbox360 standard via the xbox360..
so i just thought ide clear it up incase another newbie like me came along and didnt understand the website, saves answering more questions i guess
EDIT:
what i did originally is just copy and paste the file onto a memory stick and tried to get it to work - the post before the second one i posted with the instructions shows my problem mate

im actually playing online as we speak with it.
i think my console will already be flagged and will be banned with the next ban wave so im just getting as much out of it as possible for the time being!

This is not working for me. My brother's system came up as disc not supported when he tried playing Halo Anniversary. I put the TU to the flash as instructed, but upon loading the game, a message comes up asking to download the TU. If I download the TU I can get into the game's menu, but that's it. When trying to actually play campaign or MP, the disc is not supported message pops up again.
