What's the current fw on your PS3?
Which fw are you trying to update to?
Where did you download the pup file from?

err, have you bought a downgrader?
You need to use a dongle which can downgrade the firmware, not us "update" to a lower firmware.
Also what was the original firmware of the PS3 when you bought it? I hear you cannot downgrade lower than the firmware it was originally shipped with. eg if the PS3 had 3.70 out of the box, you cannot downgrade to 3.55

It's a dongle which you have to use to downgrade the firmware, the ps3 will not "update" to a lower firmware.
So like the ps3yes pro, e3, teensy, etc.

Well I havent looked downgraders as I have not had to do it myself. now the e3 flasher apparently finally does dual boot, but it costs $80 and i dont know if you still get the esata hdd thinggy.
Now they suggest you downgrade your ps3 to 3.55 and put 4.0 on their flasher's nor, but as someone pointed out on the ps3hax site, it would be much simpler to keep 4.0 on the ps3 and not downgrade whilst installing 3.55 on the flasher.
Again I have not done this myself or own one, so you'll have to check somewhere else or someone else may help you.
This forum is kindda slow right now, if you want more details and a faster response try www.ps3hax.net and post on the forums there, they seem to be more active.
Oh and the dual boot mean you have 2 firmwares as you cannot go online onto psn with cfw. So having 2 nors means you can have both and when you want to play online you load the 4.0fw. Note though that if you going to do any pirating you still cannot get 4.0 to run the games.

Hi everyone.
I have had an issue with the console shutting down afeter around three seconds.
I used the e3 flasher that I purchased from second hand.
What I did was upgrade the e3 flasher with the later update as it backs up the nor three times.
The problem I had was it was not backing up at first and then read if you flick the 5th swith it will back up and it did that successfully.
Just in case,I backed the nor up around 5 to six times with the backups completing successfully each time.
It came up with 3 bkpe files as
bkpe30.bin
bkpe31.bin
bkpe32.bin
I dragged these bin files to the e3 flasher dump checker and this is what came up.
Integrity verification has completed with errors
The e3 dump is either corrupted or isn't in the expected format
Please check your HW setup before you continue!
I checked the log files and it did show that the backup process completed successfully.
Don't understand what could have gone wrong.
now the console swithces on and off in around three seconds.
I have repaired slim consoles before when they shut down due to the power supply protection system but am baffled with this one as like host of the thread stated that you can still turn the ps3 on and off without unplugging the console bfeore you can turn it back on.
Can I also add that on the e3 site,I could not distinguish which pinhole you solder the wire onto.Maybe my eyes but they do put a big dot which does cover numerous holes around the area on the board.
I tried to solder the wire to the board and to the sbe and switched the console back on.The result was that the ps3 stayed on but no detection of the e3 flasher (not lit up) or usb flash drives.I will get a picture of the log files on the last backup if this we of any use.
Thanks in advance

are you are trying to fix a brick console?
what leds does it show when its operating?
Quote: What I did was upgrade the e3 flasher with the later update as it backs up the nor three times.
it does not matter if its backing up 3 times if the clip is not seated correctly all 3 of them will be corrupted even if the size of them is correct

if the console is in brick state using switches from left to right(up down up down down down) will do a backup of the nor

NEVER EVER use e3 flasher checker..... it will NOT check the proper location of the nor backup you will have to use different tools to make sure that the backup is 100% correct

I would really appreciate this.
I did try flow rebuilder but don't know how to use that.
I generally am ok with repairing consoles but this one had me stumped.
The console is a slim 160gb with cech 2503a
Where is the tab so I could upload you the bin files?

compress them all in 1 file using winrar and upload it to www.mediafire.com
a common mistake to do is actually doing a backup of the nor of the flasher itself you can also program the nor of the flasher.... so doing a backup of flashers nor and programing the ps3 with it will make it a perm brick
btw edit the post lol its too long :3

if the ps3 is in a brick state.... tristate to SBE that should keep the ps3 on
considering you got the 25xx model you probably have the JTP-001 motherboard... even if you dont have that it will still be the same location... so if you have one of these SUR-001 JTP-001 JSD-001 KTE-001 the location is the same take a look at the picture...
set switch flash fun(1) and backup(3) to up and the rest to down then just power up the ps3 and press start on the flasher.... :3
one more thing you do know that if it was bricked from the start theres 50/50 chance that you wont fix it right?.... you will have to get a usb dongle to enter service mode to actually fix it right? lol but im pretty sure you got it all covered ^__^

I soldered the wire to the trisate on the motherboard last time and to the sbe but what happened was the e3 flasher mainboard was not lighting up and the usb dongle that I put in was not being detected.although the ps3 would stay on but I will resolder back on today

so you didn't flash the ps3 yet right? all this time you just try to dump the nor?
i downgraded a friends ps3(21xx) the backup was fine... but when i patched the dump and flashed it.... the usb was not working and no video but the ps3 would turn on and stay on(no tristate soldering)..... then i byte reversed the dump and used another patcher and that did the trick...
anyway do some more dumps of the nor.... ill check them and if they come out correct ill patch them for ya... so you can flash the ps3 and do the rest ^__^ dont forget to do qa flag after youre done and running on rogero cfw....

you are a star mate!
So its possible to recover this one?
Just a little worried about resolder to tristate.
Is there more than one connection for that point in case I blow it?

tristate sadly as far as i know only one point on the board BUT(there's always that BUT somewhere :D) you can also use GND points heres few examples
<-------> <<<<<< wire lol
tristate <-----> SBE
tristate <-----> GND(ground)any point will do
GND <-----> SBE
BUT(heres that BUT again :3)
when using the GND to SBE you WILL have to do a manual reset.... to do that... well.... lets just say its not the most comfortable way of doing things... you will have to set the switches WHILE(and if it will stay on) the ps3 is running.... not only that but will also have to reset the flasher as-well.... there's a red button on the flasher(not the front panel) but on the flasher itself its in the middle of the card that sits there instead of the hdd...
something like this
solder GND to SBE
set switch flashing fun(1st on the left) up
turn on the ps3(hope it stays that way and the south bridge wont come up and turn it off again)
reset the flasher(red button in the middle of the flasher)
set backup switch(3rd from the left)up
press start on the front panel
if all is good flasher should read 3 times and hopefully you will have 3 perfect backups on the card
its also worth mentioning... try to reseat the clip and also check if the card youre using is not SDHC ive had problems with them before when doing downgrades.... and check the contact pins when putting on the nor chip.... a little bit of pressure should do the trick... also card should be FAT32 i think its worth mentioning >_<
apart from that you should be set..... but you should try soldering the tristate to avoid all the above mess lol

yeah as you stated in the previous post.
I only tried to backup and not write anything
The only thing that concerns me now is a youtube video that as this was a common problem of the slim console not reading to create the backup was that they moved the 5th swith up and this is what I tried

2nd switch from the right(5) only changes the location from where you actually read from so if its up you read from the flasher if its down you read from the ps3
so i guess the dumps actually came from the flashers nor lol no wonder they were full of garbage
when you try to read the ps3 nor did the front panel blue leds lit up and gave error codes?
8 leds 1=blinking 0=not blinking
these codes refer to soldering SBE and the clip no fully in place
10000100 - E3 can not initialize PS3 Nor Chip
10001100 - Error initializing the PS3 BIOS
10001101 - Error while reading PS3 BIOS
10001111 - Error writing PS3 BIOS
these.. well these speak for themselves lol
11000000 - Wrong position of switches (the action you selected is not possible)
11001100 - Wrong position of switches (the action you selected is not possible)
oh and something else if you plan on downgrading other ps3s update the flasher with the samsung update that will cancel locked to 1 ps3 thing that the flasher does

Wow do you notice you just totally confused the poor guy on the original post.
Let me explain it for noob's because it seems this post is full of them.
A noob's guide to ps3.
1. if you have a newer model ps3 ps3 slim or super slim downgrading will no longer work after 4.00 because 4.00 blocks downgrading on the new slim and the new super slim ps3 console.
2. if you where on 4.00 your too late if you have any of the decks listed sorry.
3. and as for the dongle idea remember the dongle will downgrade but only from 3.55 not from 4.00 it will fail if you try
please epople please do some research before confusing poor new people here thanks .
