firmware 3.73 can my ps3 still be modded

Hi all I just got my brand new ps3 and i was really looking forward to modding it, that is until i found out that the firmware is 3.73. im a complete noob to the modding of the ps3 and ive been reading alot of the post here. I see that the firmware has to be 3.55 and now i dont think my ps3 can still be modded. i hope im wrong and im misssing something and it still can be modded, because that was one of the main reasons i went out brought one ($271.49 ouch!) So any help or info you can give me will be a big help. I dont mind reading so send me any links you guys think will be helpful. Thanks everybody.

First of all what model is your PS3? CECH-xxxx???
If you are on CECH-30xxx then you probably wont be able to downgrade your PS3. Cant be sure though as I cannot find many posts about the newer PS3 models.
But it doesnt matter which PS3 model you have, any firmware above 3.56 you will need to downgrade to 3.55.
Also 3.73 was also just recently released, pretty unlikely that they would be already shipping units with 3.73 on them. If you accidently upgraded just say so :P

Thanks guys for you responces. bigo93 Thanks for your help i brought this ps3 yesterday brand new and when i connected it to the internet it said i had the latest firmware 3.73 and it did the update. (Now i cant remember if it said it WOULD update to 3.73 or i already had it.) and to make matters worse my brother the expert xbox 360 case modder he's painted the the ps3 red now i cant see what my model number is,and we threw the box away. is there another way to find out my model number i looked in the system info but it didnt say i did some googling but i didnt find anything but i could've missed it.
Knowing my luck i got the CECH-30XXX and it cant be down graded and this idiot has painted it red so i cant even exchange it for another one. Thanks bigo93 for all your valuable information it really was a big help

@ alecoddly i went to the link you sent me it sems pretty simple to do have you tried it? I have to be honest again im really new to ps3 modding as you can tell from my earlier post i think i upgraded when i shouldnt have (im an idiot). I really want to try this but i think i will do some searches to find out who's done it and how it worked for them. If you dont mind would you get back to me and let me know if you've found anybody that this has worked for. Thanks again for all your help and for that link you sent.

alecoddly is a scammer, dont trust these silly sites that claim to have the latest answer to everything, it's fake.
The only way for you to hack your console is via downgrading only atm, nothing else will work.
Try scrapping the paint away from where the info is supposed to be and check, you can respray it after. Seems your brother was too rash to mod the PS3 before checking to see if it was working properly...
If you bought this PS3 to hack, why recklessly click yes to do an update?
Unfortunately I have not hears of anyone having downgraded the new console version yet, and this wiki claims it's also not possible yet: http://www.ps3devwiki.com/index.php?title=SKU_Models
First thing's first though, check to see which model you have! Get some white spirit and get rid of the paint, then check. Only do it and the lower left side on the rear of the ps3, if you do have a cech30xx console then get rid of all the paint and return it. If you only just bought it, it's your right to return the product and if they ask why say you do not agree to the EULA agreement. It'll work cos you can only reas the thing after you open the box so if the store owners refuses to accept it back you can complain to trading standards.
Just get rid of the white spirit smell before you do so :P

@big093 you are right i should not have done the update noob or not i shouldve read more before i done it. I feel like i should be apologizing to you guys for doing something so stupid. as far as my brother this guy really is an ass%#$e one of those know-it_alls and he shouldve known better too (but in his defence it does look pretty good.) I screwed up guys it will take me another two weeks to get the money for another one but i think i will buy a used one (slim) and do a little more reading before i just do what i did. i have a younger brother with a friend down the street i know he doesnt have a game console im going to give him this one him. He and brothers will get a more use out of it. My brothers going to bitch but no problems. big093 thank you again for all your info im still learning so thank you for your patience with me and shootin it straight. I dont know if alecoddy is a scammer or not but i have read that 3.73 isnt hackable but maybe he was just tryin to help in any case thanks guys i learned alot and i will be back when i get that used ps3 to make sure i do things right. (no updates thanks guys.)

I just had a quick look at the site but it all seems bogus, first of all the name, ps3jailbreak2011 and then it's also on blogspot, anyone can make a page on there, just like anyone can make a website. If someone releases a real product they'll have their own website, and any real creator of a dongle would send sample to the popular sites/people to test and confirm they work.

The usual method is that one decides on which device they want, e3flasher/progskeet/teensy.
One then finds which websites sell them and which ones they can trust.
One then goes to said site, looks for the device they want and then add it to their shopping cart.
If registration is required on said site, register.
Upon completing registration, one can then proceed to the checkout.
One then enters their details and pays for the product.
Upon completion of payment you will receive a confirmation email of your order.
The retailer will then ship the product to you.
You will then receive the product via your post within 3- 28 days typically.
