I've been looking into jailbreaking my ps3 and just had a few questions to ask about it. Basically I have a 320gb slim ps3 (can't remember what ofw it's currently on, but pretty sure its lower than 3.55 so if i'm going to jailbreak it i'm going to update it to 3.55 and then install the cfw). I was just wondering about whether modding your ps3 means you can play all pirated games? The only thing i'm concerned about is that if I download a game but then my firmware isn't up to date enough to play it. For example, whether a brand new pirated game which I download will ask me to update my firmware but I won't be able to because I'd then lose my cfw.
Also, I play online quite a bit but have heard that modding the ps3 can get you banned from PSN. But i'd still like to play online as well as playing other games for free so I'm considering buying a cheap used ps3 to jailbreak and then still have my original ps3 unjailbroken so I can still play online, is this a good idea?
First no piracy, even though I think $ony deserve it.
Second, first rule of hacking a console, dont expect to keep everything you want. Online gaming is the first to go.
Yes newer games require the latest ofw installed, meaning older cfw cannot play them unless an update patch is released by the developer using the older keys, eg LA Noire is a 3.6x game, but an update patch was 3.55 allowing LA Noire to play on current cfw. This was only for the games released when 3.60 was released, now all dev use the latest key which cfw cannot play, or if you download and install a new game update patch using the new keys.
But then yes, newer games will see you are on older fw and ask you to update, but as long as auto update is disabled and you click no to updating when the new game asks you, you have nothing to worry about.
If you want psn and homebrew, 2 consoles is the way to go. If you have kids, then dont let them play on it alone, supervise them to make sure they do not update cos they want to play a new game they borrowed from a friend.
