I was wondering wjat the latest and safest mod for the ps3 which will allow me to boot ps3 backups on external hard drive. I read about the Geohot exploit and Sony getting all ip addresses of everyone who downloaded it. Do I have alternative options for what I want to do.
I think we can forgive people now for asking rather than looking, there is a lot of information out there now that they seems to meld into each other and ends up being confusing, just like with the psp scene.
Use kmeaw cfw 3.55 with the latest multiman and install bdemu.pkg as well to run backups.
You have to be on 3.55 if you are 3.56 or 3.60 then you just have to sit and wait for someone to release cfw 3.60
Bigo93 you hit it right on the money.Thats why I asked. I dont stay up to date with ps3 mods since I never modded one. Also is kmeaw going to allow me to play backups online? and are playstation 3 updates going to f up my mod. (Am I gonna have to stick to offline play?)

i have modded one ps3 so far and have another on the way to mod for a friend
my own ps3 is unmoddable (3.56) so i continue to read (and will do so in the future as to keep current)
every day i spend hours reading the main sites and searching through the crap that google puts up when you do basic searches
that is the only way to learn
and by doing that reading (that you must also do to keep up with the scene)
sure it is complicated but thats why i read every post i can find and after a few days of reading you can basically get the big picture after a few months you can quickly scan the crap and see whats real or not
if they dont want to read and learn the they should just wait for the sticky guide to magically appear for them to use
and for petes sake NO YOU CANT GO ONLINE WITH A MODDED CONSOLE WITHOUT GETTING BANNED
sure it might work online for a few days but if you want to mod then say goodbye to online play
its a sacrifice you must be willing to make to have a modded console
ps i also have a modded psp and i followed that scene for years to keep up to date with all the info
if you want to be lazy and not read then wait for the stickys they will have all the important info that you need
but remember to keep up on those too because in the case on this site with the ps3 cfw tutorial after a few days some of the main parts of the guide were removed so make sure you check often and save the info to a word document
(ie all the info about lv2 was removed from the guide)
as it was modified in march 5 (deleted info) and the original post was jan 26
sure glad i saved it all when it first came out
and OF COURSE IF YOU UPDATE WITH SONY UPDATES IT WILL ERASE YOUR MOD
in my opinion you should know every single step and understand it all before you even start the modding process
if you are unsure about a part of the process then you need to google that part and research it so that you have no surprises
Just picked up a PS3 used, 120gb slim.. Wanted to jailbreak it, it's sitting at 3.50 OFW, question I have - I have about 400$ in purchased content from PSN, but on my old broken console that I tossed out.. Is there currently ANY way to go about getting that data back, and then modding my console? or modding it and then getting the data? Cuz I'm noticing I can't connect to PSN without an update, and I know if I update I can't jailbreak it at 3.60.. so, any suggestions?
