Yes you can run backup games from the external hdd. Just some games are only compatible on the internal hdd, and games with over 4gb files have to be on internal.

The backup managers are being updated all the time, so compatibility on some is getting better all the time.

I believe that the question is asking if a backup manager can be installed on an external hdd.

For this you need to ask the guys who make them. I think it should be possible but so fra noone has done it as far as I know.
Or maybe they have and BM only work when installed on internal drives.

The only one who will know will be the devs who make the BM so you will have to email one of them and ask. Though they are continuously working on improving the BM.

Thats incorrect. Games that are over 4gb can be transferred via FTP to internal or external.

I think it's pretty clear he's asking can you load backups from an external drive with a backup manager installed to the internal drive. BTW multiman is the best backup going right. Rogero has sometimes has freezing issue. Also list below can give you an idea of what's playable from an external hard drive.

Yeahh i was leaning more towards what Memnock and Smokyrain were getting at. I dont have the biggest internal hard drive (60 gbs) and was wondering if rather than installing them onto the internal if they could just be played straight off the external i have.

but you think multiman is the best BM to go with?

Multiman is on fire right now ( that's a good thing). It's the most compatible for backups. Plus, esthetically it's the best too. ;)

Yes they can be copied to external via ftp or using backup manager, but they don't play on external is what I meant.
