Ok so let me tell you the whole story. I bought a fat 80gig ps3 (ceche01 model). about a year ago the laser went out, i sent it in to sony and got it fixed for $150. i figured it would be a refurb model but would work. Two days ago, right after watching a blu ray, i tried to play a game. the system didnt read it. the disc injected/ejected fine and the blue and green lights lit up on the front to show a disc was put it. the system would not sense the disc in there and didnt spin it up. i suspected the same laser problem as before. After doing some research online, i decided to strip down my ps3 and try a diy fix before buying a new model which i cant afford. i took it apart all the way down to the blu ray drive and took it apart. i noticed that my laser model was a kem 400AAA single lens model. i disconnected the dvd sensor on top and took off the top portion of the blu ray drive. i inserted a clear cd (the kind you get from the bottom of a dvd r spindle)to run a laser test. when i turned the system on it flashed a violet /blue (photo and video in url below) but no red, and didnt spin the cd. so i inserted an actual game, the drive took it in, the laser flashed and same color and didnt spin the disc. so i took apart the laser lens and cleaned both sides. still same problem. the system still doesnt read the disc. any suggestions? could this be another bad laser or just a bad motor? anyone know where a can get a laser and carriage for cheap? Thanks. photo: link

You should be able to find them on eBay, although they're not cheap. I bought just the replacement laser and it was $60, but you should be able for find a full replacement drive for less than $100.
