Ok, so I have the old fat 60 gig ps3. I have the latest 3.55 cfw installed, but I don't think that had anything to do with my problem. So I recently moved my ps3 to a bookshelf, with enclosed bàck and sides. I though it would be fine as its the only thing on the shelf with adequate room,or so I thought. After being on steaming meadow for several hours, it cuts off beeps and blinks the red light. Obv8oisly it overheated, after it cooled down I booted it back up, apearred to work. Next day I moved it out in the open and set it on a laptop cooler. But after booting it freezes within 20 to 60 seconds everytime. It does not cut off or anything, dimly freezes at the xmb or anywhere. I'm going to try the file restoration and such in safe mode Any ideas are greatly appreciated. I'm hoping the shutoff simply corrupted some files and did not ruin hardware, any ideas or suggestions?

sounds to me it needs a reflow; early signs of ylod/rlod. i don't think a system restore will do you any good. off course you can always try, i mean anything is better than having a failed system.

You could try exchanging the termal phaste with something good (like for example Arctic Silver), sometimes that does the trick. But don't use too much of it.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion, I thought of this, but do you really think its getting that hot in 30 secs? I figure it overheated sand something went bad. I have it running really cool now, but will freeze after being on for seconds.

Yes. I once had the same problem with a PS3, exchanging the termal paste helped me (still didn't manage to get that unit to work because the guy I bought it from had switched the BDdrive with one from another PS3, but that's another story).

Ok, if you think it will help I may give it a shot, have any guides in particular I should go by, or does it just go on the CPU right under the fan?

CPU and GPU, the two processors directly under the cooler. Make sure to remove all of the old termal paste, even that stuff that is sticking on the cooler.
