hi im new to this site and new to the whole jaibreak scene of the PS3
I would like to jailbreak my PS3 so i can make copies of games i already own, and copy them to an external hard drive and play them off the hard drive instead of using the original game discs.
I bought a brand new PS3 last week, and a western digital 3TB EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE, and the first site i discovered after my research was... http://www.ps3usbjailbreak.com/
but the site made me REALLY CONFUSED, and i dont know where to begin, so ive decided to just post the questions on this forum.
will someone message me STEP BY STEP on what i should do to get started?n also, what EXACLTY is a jailbreak PS3 and what are its capabilities???

PS. the only thing that im aware of is that my 3tb hard drive needs to be formatted to FAT32 in order to be read by my PS3, but i dont know what software to use for that. more help please lol

Firstly you need to be on firmware 3.55 or below to do any modifications to your ps3. If your firmware is above then your unfortunately out of luck.

1) PS3 HAS to be on 3.55 or lower(check system setting > system information)
2) not all games work on external drive e.g GT5(around 13gb file cant fit on fat32 filesystem)

i assume its a slim PS3 being new n all.... model number is also important if its slim with 3xxx as its model you're out of luck they cant be downgraded nor they can be jailbroken due to being over 3.56(syscon set to same version as the system) also take note to external drive i myself have WD MyPassport(1tb) if its not externally powered(AC power) you will have the same problem as me the drive WILL power up but will not work(FAT ps3 does not have this problem.... the slims have lower voltage for usb some hdd brands WILL work)

probably the most easy and free partition managers out there is EASEUS Partition Master
you can get it from here its freeware

Being a new PS3 that you have bought, my guess it is likely to be a 3xxx model, which cannot be hacked or downgraded.
But if you are lucky to get one of the 25xx models of which some can be hacked, note that the PS3 can only recognise a maximum partition size of 2TB, nothing more.
Even if you partition your hdd to be one 2TB and one 1TB partition, it will still only detect just one partition. So I guess you can use that extra 1TB as storage for your PC.

sorry for my absence, but im back lol.
After reading yalls responses, here are my queations now...
1. If it has to be firmware 3.55 or below, then why do i see people on google & youtube claiming 4.00's and up can be jailbroken??? ...confusing
2. Im thinking of getting a USED 160gb PS3 to jailbreak and the model number on it is CECH-2501A. my question is... Can that model be jailbroken?

people all over the net say different things..... 3.56-4.XX cannot be hacked its a fact never EVER listen to folks on twitter/youtube/facebook/etc claiming they are working on hacking the 4.xx versions half of them steal other vids from the genuine people who show a debug model(genuine debug on 4.XX looks the same as jailbroken ps3....... a working PSN is just a tiny bit of what it can do)

i can be jailbroken(depending on what firmware you get it) AND down gradable(lowest firm it can go is 3.41) if you get it and its over 3.55 either get a flasher or pay someone to downgrade it for you.... i cant stress enough about some people doing downgrades and not doing rehash(QA flag after complete downgrade) make sure that if you get someone to downgrade it for you does QA flag(this will reset the syscon on the ps3 from whatever version it was before to the current version 3.55) if not and by any chance they figure out how to jailbreak 4.XX you wont be able to install it(if you do it will brick the system)

ok i finally REFORMATTED the USED PS3 i purchased (MODEL CECH-2501A) and the firmware version says its 3.77. So does this mean i need to DOWNGRADE it in order to jailbreak it??? = (
if so, I will need help on how to do that STEP By STEP cuz i have NO IDEA! = (

2) get microSD card (SDHC gave me trouble and my nor dumps were partial and corrupted) so get a non SDHC card they are usually under 2gb in size cost around 10 bucks i think
3) a downgrade dongle this one is a MUST its needed to finish the process of the downgrade cost can be varied from 15 to 30 bucks

sup, bud. ive decided to NOT attempt to DOWNGRADE my PS3 160GB because i have no experience in opening up a PS3 and modding it myself. it sounds like too much work and risky to damage the system.
however, i have decided to just sell my 160GB and try and purchase a 120GB i saw on EBAY. the model number for the 120Gb is CECH-2001A.
will that model have the 3.55 firmware or below guaranteed??? cuz i heard ALL 120GB PS3's can be jailbroken do to the firmware being OLDER. in other words, ANY firmware thats 3.55 OR BELOW can be jailbroken without the hassle of downgrading, correct? = )

PS. when i successfully JAILBREAK my PS3, will I get BANNED from the PSN or get into any kind of trouble, or it safe??? also, am i able to REVERSE the jaikbreak just incase i decided not to have my PS3 jailbroke anymore?

Yea i just decided NOT to jailbreak my PS3, because i keep hearing too many different things and dont know which is true. PLUS, im pretty sure the rumor of not being able to go ONLINE with your games or the PSN is true. if so, its POINTLESS to jailbreak because then you cant go online with your games. ALSO, i heard that SONY is watching all jailbroken PS3's that go on the PSN so they can find you and brick your PS3 or press charges.
am i correct anyone?

psn actually works now.... not sure for how long... but if you have 3.55 you can run fuckpsn on pc and get psn im pretty sure sony will change the pass phrase soon so you wont be able to get psn 4.25 already out so meh

The online stuff isn't a rumor, online works only as long as fuckPSN works. Other than that you need the latest firmware to go online, for jailbreak you need 3.55. The stuff about Sony bricking your PS3 is bullshit, atleast so far. They might press charges by banning you from online play (like mikrosoft does), but that's it. Why should they start bricking people? They got like a 50% chance those people brick themselves by getting a ylod.
Also a lot of the newer games don't work on a jailbroken PS3, because they need newer firmwares and you can't yet patch them.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
