Hello i am about to buy PS3
I am confused in this
My main intention for purchasing PS3 is
1) HTPC (Media player)
2) backup games (i dont like putting cds all the time)
So it must be good hackable and without problem
so can any one which should i buy
1) Fat or slim
2) Which version MODEL NUMBER to look for (not the kernel)
3) Will it be able to play backups ?
4) Will it be okay in Media playback ?
5) Any suggestion while buying new one ?
6) Will GOD OF WAR III played as backup ?
Thank you hope you will not mind.. I already read the forum and got all the info needed but no where i found slim fat question.. or i might missed it...
I am interested in purchasing/renting this games so i want to know ? Will all this game work as backup ? means can they be backedup and played?
Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds
Mortal Kombat
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Killzone 3
LittleBigPlanet 2
The Last Guardian
God of War Collection (2009)
God of War III (is latest Jan 2010)
God of War: Ghost of Sparta (nov 2010)
Heavy Rain
I am against piracy but i don't like listening rotating noise of the drive also i will use the drive most for the Movies (original DVD and bluray rented)so i don't want to go bad soon.. Already faced the problem with PS2 so i modded black xbox which allowed to save game.. and was very comfortable with XMBC..

lmao, funniest excuse I have heard from a pirate!
OK, buy a slim ps3, the are smaller, do not overheat as much as phats, and they use almost 40% less electricity than phats.
As for a media player, sony's "it only does everything" machine, does no even support mkv video. I have a tonne of anime fansubs and over half of them cannot be played by my ps3. This is why many people are hoping someone releases a better media player for the ps3.
Backing up games, most games can be backed up, you just need to choose internal or external hdd. Though some games can only be played on internal and some can only be played on external via multiman's disk emulator feature.
So first thing, get a slim, any model as long as it is on 3.55 not 3.56
You may also want to buy an external drive. hdd space is quickly used up by games, you'd be surprised by how fast!

If you manage to get to run this game on any PS3, you might become a hero to some. It's a PSP game.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

The slim is probably a better choice just because it will be newer. Don't worry too much about the hard disk size; they are all too small, and you should get at least a 500GB if not a 750GB or a 1TB. Make sure that it does not have 3.56 on it; any older firmware is fine. Linux works fine on the slim.
Also, I assume you are buying used...make sure that the system works smoothly, that blurays play back, and that the system does not overheat when playing intensive games...if there are any issues, you want to find them before you jailbreak.

AFAIK, they don't sell new fat units, other than old stock that never got sold. Here in the US, slims are $300, and there is no reason to pay any more for a fat, assuming you can find one.
