Want to make my CEX ps3 a DEX PS3.

I just have a few queries regarding a dex ps3 so if anyone can clear them out I will be quite grateful.
1.The first query is will I be able to do everything that I am able to do right now on my ps3 custom firmware on a dex firmware like playing games of multiman old and new running pkg files and other stuff that can be done on a 3.55 custom firmware.
2.If there is a ps3 which was downgraded first before installing custom firmware then does that ps3 has a different protocol regarding installation of dex.
3.Are there chances of bricking the console even after the said procedures have been followed.
There are a lot of tutorials to convert your ps3 into a dex but the tutorials are quite different from each other with one being extremely easy to follow while an other one being a quite difficult to follow so I don't know which one to follow,so if anyone can recommend a tutorial which is confirmed working then it'll be great.

yes and no multiman on dex works in a diffrent way.... you also need to use some tools from sony(target manager,ps3 generator) theres also a way to play older games from a pc using the network(target manager+multiman+dex game loader)...... pkg files need to be set npdrn to allow instalation(use aldostools to patch pkg).... playing new games(4.21 is the highest so far)you only need the game backup(4.xx/3.70) and atleast 1 patch to play the game(game needs to be build using ps3 generator to be used and you also have to use a usb hdd for it) retail games(disk) will work like usual no patching or anything like that up to 4.21..... dex will NOT play dvd movies nor will it play bluray movies....

downgraded ps3 needs only few things... to fix the syscon using 3.55cfw install QA_flag.pkg then run it the ps3 will beep few times and restart then just go to network setting and press on the ps3 controller L1+L2+L3+R1+R2+down pad you will see few options popup about debug setting now install OFW 3.55 and install CFW3.55 that will clear the syscon and set it to proper version(3.55)

yes and no if you use the multiman method of flashing the nor it will only flash the 0EID area thats a safe way.... flashing nor using linux is not a safe way(full nor flash can brick system)

ill make it more simple than that.... btw make sure youre not running rogero cfw and the ps3 youre using is downgraded with a proper syscon 3.55 check
just get the rar from this link and install both pkg files

now run multiman and hold L2+R2 multiman will show its in debug now just update multiman while its in this state and run it again with L2+R2 now press select+start to load mmOS
mmOS->Select any file->Open in HEX viewer->[SELECT]->[START]->DUMP LV2(NO)->DUMP LV1(NO)->DUMP FLASH(YES)
this will dump the nor... the file should be 16mb and its extension should be .NORBIN copy file to usb quit multiman
now run the eEID key dumper wait for the ps3 to do its thing it will be back to the XMB then run multiman and enter mmOS(select+start) browse to /dev_hdd0/tmp/ file should be here called eid_root_key copy that to usb aswell now just pack them up in rar upload to mediafire and ill patch the nor you will only have to flash it back and install dex firm ^__^

make absolutely sure that the ps3 you're using is not a downgraded one.... if you're running rogero(rogero logo popup during ps3 boot) you will have to rehash the syscon or else even if you flash it now(and the ps3 will boot normally) after it will install the dex firm it will brick

anyway
run multiman put my file on usb... now just go into mmOS(select+start) go into dev_usb double click on file and follow instructions..... after you're done quit multiman and turn off the ps3.... power it back on and it should load as usual.... now from there go to recovery and install dex firm... to know if it actually works.... after flashing just enter recovery it will tell you that the lowest firm you can install is lower than 3.55....

OK man but you see I bought this ps3 from a guy and I'm pretty sure its not downgraded but as you told that I should be extra sure,so should I install QA_flag.pkg and reinstall 3.55 ofw and cfw to make sure or is there any other way to check if my ps3 was downgraded.thanks for the help bro.

well rogero usually comes with a different logo at boot(normal is PS3 logo) and usually comes with a version spoof(check system setting > system information should say higher than 3.55)
heres a rogero logo
if you still think its a downgraded ps3

install that and it should put you to original 3.55
now just get this one http://www.mediafire.com/?dqchvygc0zxk524 and install it
now you should be all set with syscon rehashed now just dump nor again and get keys again ill patch it again so you can flash it and install dex ^__^

I don't have a rogero logo on my ps3 boot so does that mean it was not downgraded.

Hey man I decided to be extra sure that my ps3 wasn't downgraded so I downloaded that qa_flag pkg and installed and ran it but it just stays there with a black screen and it doesn't beeps or anything.thanks for the help man.

One of the new links of qa_flag worked and installed 3.55 ofw and cfw and I got new keyslink,and one more thing how difficult is it patch the keys(will I be able to manage doing it) because there are a few of my friends who want to get their PS3's DEX'd up and I don't want to trouble you all the time.Anyway thanks a lot for your major effort.I hope this is enough to ensure my ps3 doesn't get bricked.

did you check that the qa worked?
go to settings then just go down to network setting while it highlighted press
L1+L2+L3+R1+R2+down on the pad.... make sure you press them all at once if a new options become available it works
patching the nor is rather easy

flash the nor.... reboot ps3.... if all goes well check the qa combo and if nothing shows up then its done...... just install dex firm(install from recovery).... a little warning.... dex does not behave like a normal ps3.... sometimes the ps3 dex will be more hot than usual and like i said before dex does not play movies(dvd/bluray) its disabled by default and you cant enable it...

All right man I installed 4.21 dex firmware from the link you gave and installed it through recovery menu but none of the existing homebrews are working including multiman.Do I need to install a different version of multiman.

I just re-read your post that I will have to run my backups externally,is there no way to run my backups from the internal hdd.If there is then please let me know if there isn't then well I would like to go back to cex(for the time being atleast) so please give some easy info about how to go back to CEX.Thanks a lot for your help and sorry for the extra troubles.

sadly going back from dex has it problems you can end up with a brick BUT(hehehehehe i like saying that) :3
if you want all your backups playing on dex just get the rogero dex 3.55 it has peek and poke and multiman there will work on internal backups ^__^ can be installed from recovery :3

they should.... but dont forget games from 4.xx will not work... it is a ps3 after all dex or not you have to be on the proper firm to play them......

Yeah man got it actually at the moment I don't even have any new games and I don't think there are any good new exclusive games out there anyway,but will have to switch to higher firmware when the new God of war game comes out and that new naughty dog game.Thanks a lot for all your help I will let you know how it went.

Well atleast the the internal hdd games are starting on rogero peek and poke but motorstorm appocalypse is giving me black screen after saving data screen and some games are giving me that trophy not found error.Do I have to do any changes in the debugging setting or something,and should install anything else except multiman.Thanks for your help man.

remove trophy from ps3 that will fix the error... its located here > /dev_hdd0/home/00000001/trophy/ <
as for motorstorm did you use the eboot fix? that's probably why its giving you troubles..(sometimes dex dont like eboots) i think there's few patches thats been edited to 3.55... tell me the titles id the game... eg.. BCES01118(resistance 3) ill search around...
btw if you want more apps just try showtime its built in with multiman great app it is for watching movies and stuff like that comes with plenty of plugins aswell(watch stuff on youtube and navi-x stuff like that) :3
and another thing check in debug options for "boot mode" set that for "release mode" that would fix few things with other games...

Hey man motorstorm's id tag is BCES-00484 and yes I applied the eboot fix but the game still won't work and deleting the trophies fixed the trophy error problem thanks for that.I'll check my other backups aswell.
