Another bit of freedom taken away to get us accustomed to having more taken in the future.
Or you know, use the back up utility tool and back up your PS3 and keep it in an external HDD. Not really that big of a deal and all it really takes is being pro-active.But hey what ever float your conspiracy boat :S
IF you think that there's a chance that your PS3 may be on its last legs specially if you own a FAT version, wouldn't it be common sense to maybe back it up?You don't even have to be an intelligent person, just have common sense.I'm not saying that developers or Sony should put copy right protection in saved data files but since we know that some saved data files are in fact protected and losing it is a real concern then back your PS3's data up.I have two 1TB external HDD and both have a copy of my PS3's back up.

The backup tool does not backup copy protected saves. You can transfer them from one PS3 to another...assuming you have two PS3s and they both work.

Nope, you can, at least from my personal experience Heavy Rain, MotoGP, Devil May cry ... (if i have more games with locked saves i cant remember them right now)
All have been backed up and restored successfully.
Maybe it depends on the game.

heheh I dont know why you think it's a theory, it's a fact and it's already happening as detailed above.
Also note not everyone can afford to have a spare hdd, or even an external hdd to back things up. If you read another one of my threads, I myself had backed up all of my games. Then I removed an old backup manager and that also started to delete the games folder.
Now if I connected via ftp I could see the data all there, it had moved the games to a new folder to delete. But ftp is very slow, if it was a windows compatible drive I could have just cut the folder and pasted it right back and most of the backups would still work. But you cant. Instead I spent the weekend backing them all up again.
Yes it is convenient, yes it is part of Sony's measures to prevent piracy, but then I own the games, I should be able to do whatever I want, like back them up. But in Sony's et al eyes this is a big no no, they would rather you have to buy a new copy of the game than rely on your backups.
I bet you believe the USG that thermite cannot melt steel. I think it was CNN who tried to show it cannot by just dumping thermite around a beam. Well go onto youtube and there are tonnes of videos showing thermite can melt steel.

I'm not sure where that came from...but this is the whole point of thermite. If CNN really did a story like that, I have their next one: Matches cannot light cigarettes!!!

Just Bawango thinking I'm a conspiracy theory nut. Some people just believe what they are told just because it comes from a large well know "trusting" corporation.
It's cropping up in more and more movies now, like in AVP2 where the woman says "Surely the government wouldn't lie to us" just before the government drops a napalm bomb on them. The few trying to get the message across, "Don't always believe what you hear", you have to go out and find out for yourself.

I don't know why your making this about you? I made the backing up your data as a general statement and not just directed to you. Also I am aware that people can't afford an external HDD but for some reason your making it sound like I'm insinuating something else. Simply pointed out that I have 2 back ups on separate external HDD.
Your assuming that just because a save game file is copy write protected it a part of Sony's anti piracy measure even though all the saved game files that I have for games that are exclusive to Sony are not. Don't you think that that's odd that games that are published by them are not?
Why is it Dead Space 2, a game that was just released does not have its saved files protected yet Dante's Inferno is? Both games by EA and developed by Visceral games. Why is it that 85% of my saved game files I'm able to copy? Does that look like Sony wants the saved files protected by piracy?
I don't just believe what company tells me and you insinuating that is insulting. I consider myself an intelligent individual and would like to know the facts first before I believe what I am told.Sony removed other OS for security reason. Is it true? I don't know? But what i do know is some hacker were trying other OS as a means to hack the PS3 which is now common knowledge. If any one here can tell me the real reason and facts then I am all ears. All I've been hearing is they shouldn't have and how people are pissed about it.I haven't still yet to find or hear from a credible source why other OS was removed?
So Bigo93. Even though not all games are copy write protected, you are convinced that its Sony's way to prevent piracy.I'm leaning into copy protecting saved files is a decision left to developers. After all how can you pirate a full game from a saved file of a game? If you have the answer to how you can get a full game out of a save file Bigo93 we would love to hear it.
Why do I think your a conspiracy theory nut? You took a service (steam cloud) that has not yet been even confirmed and turned it into a way for Sony to prevent piracy or a way for Sony to have total ownership of what you buy,EVEN THOUGH said service, IF it were confirmed, is something that is not mandatory since you would have to be a PS plus member to take part on said service.I would also think that even though you are a PS plus member you will still have to sign up and agree to use it.You go on and on about how evil Sony is but yet you own their product. It would be like me buying a 360 then go to an XBox 360 forum and bitch and whine about why I have to pay to be able to play online and why do I have to pay for their brand HDD.If you don't like what Sony is doing now or according to you where their headed as a company with all their anti-piracy plans then leave.

Not sure if anyone actually thought save files had anything to do with piracy, but if someone actually thinks that, remember...jailbroken systems can copy protected save files...if anything, they promote piracy.

There aren't that many copy protected/locked game save files to get this much bitching & complaining (or just a misunderstanding of how current & future game saves work and how Cloud is a benefit). As of late I have seen more devs tie game saves to a PSN account rather than locking them i.e. GT5. Which actually started out as locked but then unlocked to be saved/tied to your PSN. This will probably happen from here on out with most devs and the Cloud saving option.

I'm not saying that a cloud system is not beneficial, in fact it makes things easier and better. The problem is you then have no control over anything if a corporation has full control of it.
The complaining is from Bawango who seems to have an "I believe what the government/corporations tells me" attitude, and me who thinks ahead and of what current changes can lead to. So it's him saying that'll never happen, and me saying it's already begun, but then he doesnt think it can, even with all the evidence and history there is to go with it. It's like a science vs religion argurment :P

Man. You really need to read my post before you make comments. I never made such claims that what you claim is where things are headed to will never happened. Please hi-lite these "comments" that I made and I will happily eat my humble pie. There's a difference to "no it will never happen argument" to "I don't think Sony is rolling out a service for the purpose of what you think they will be heading to, which is full control of your saved files and games you buy".
And no I don't just believe what government or companies tell me.And please stop writing that just because I don't agree with you. I'M NOT A SHEEP! I just don't necessarily think that there's always an underhanded or sinister reason why things are done like you do, and IF a company or government gives me a reason that's BS or nonsensical, I support the causes to fight it, such as the recent approval of the CRTC for Canadian ISP provider to cap Internet access.
I think ahead as much as you do.I think were at the dawn of full digital distribution but still far far ahead of when it will be widely accepted by all since a lot of people like me still like to own a physical copy of a movie or game.

That is untrue since you always have the original on your PS3 or back up of it on a USB thumbdrive or similar. It is not a total requirement just an additional optional feature, so I don't understand how can they have full control of something you have in other places?

The big worry is that this may lead to more locked saves; thus you do not have the backup on USB...the only way to backup would be a full backup (does not work most of the time), or PSN+. Of course that is all just theory and logic, based on how we all know Sony operates...and it seems the choice will be in the hands of the developers, at least for the time being.

I am not talking about the ps3 but future computing. I believe the cloud system is leading to a new form of pcs. well they wont even be pcs really. Everything will end up being run, loaded, saved, rendered, processed, etc, on the cloud server; this means all we will need is a much smaller device which will connect to the cloud and the data streamed over.
In this type of network, everything will be in the hands of the network provider, your photos, movies, games, saves, only essential data will be on the device you "own".
What these corporations want and what they have released and are currently releasing points to this kind of system, imo.

I see them locking game saves to a PSN Login name since it directly coincides with the Cloud Service, while totally locking them out seems to be going away. Think about it, if a dev is unsure how they will go one way or the other it gives them the option to either do Cloud or not, while still having a protection on their game save without having to commit.
Either way I have PS+ and am very pleased with all that I have gotten for free along with receiving discounts on the things I would have bought anyway...so the addition of Cloud is extremely welcome and would have been the 1 feature (if I didn't have PS+) that would have made me join because I have multiple PS3's and really do need the capability/option.

Oner, isn't that the case now?I don't think you can get someone else save file and put it in your PS3. It gives you some kind of a message saying something in the lines that this save file for "file" is not associated with your PS3.

It depends on the game, but most are either locked to the system, to the PS3 Login, or to the PSN account. The only thing they stop by adding copy protection is people backing up their saves and people using the same save with multiple systems (like if a kid has a PS3 at mom's house and at dad's house)
