mossfan18,
It?s good to remove all those junk programs that ddp listed and also run the following to get rid of some more:
Download and run PC DeCrapifier -> HERE.
The free PC DeCrapifier removes dozens of craplets automatically. Using this program is exceedingly simple. Just run it, and it does its removal work automatically. Don't expect it to completely clean your PC, because it removes only a specific set of craplets and trialware programs, those that are specifically put on new PCs, such as QuickBooks Trial, Wild Tangent Games, Dell URL Assistant, and many others.
:Remove unneeded start-up entries:
These are programs that start up when you turn on your computer but don't need to be, any of these programs you can click on their icons (or start from the control panel) and start the program when you need it. By stopping these programs you will boot up faster and your computer will work faster.
Run HijackThis (rightclick and run as admin)
Click on the Scan button
Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if still present):

You still have Way Too Much installed on your computer. Most of which I just know you're not using.
Use your Revo and go through the programs one at a time. If you know what it is and you decide you don't use it or need it then uninstall it.... If you don't know what it is google it before removing so you don't take out something that's needed...
Do post a fresh HJT Log after removing stuff and I'll look for more things that are starting and running when they don't need to be, just using resources and slowing you down.

The whole ?AVG Secure Search? and "AVG SafeGuard toolbar" folders should be gone.. If not, you have Revo Pro and can use the Forced Uninstall feature to follow the path and uninstall the files marked in RED.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\AVG Secure Search\vToolbarUpdater\15.4.0\ToolbarUpdater.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\AVG Secure Search\vToolbarUpdater\15.4.0\loggingserver.exe

This is going to be like eating an elephant, just have to take one Byte at a time??

You?re looking a lot better.. You still have some questionable entries in the HJT log that I really don?t have time tonight to investigate so, it will have to be sometime tomorrow..
I?ll try to get it as soon as I can and will post for you.

Hi mossfan18,
There are just a few items left for cleanup and I find no malware..
Run HijackThis (rightclick and run as admin)
Click on the Scan button
Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if still present):
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F9E4A054-E9B1-4BC3-83A3-76A1AE736170} - (no file)
O9 - Extra button: @C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP Support Framework\Resources\HPNetworkCheck\HPNetworkCheckPlugin.dll,-103 - {25510184-5A38-4A99-B273-DCA8EEF6CD08} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP Support Framework\Resources\HPNetworkCheck\NCLauncherFromIE.exe
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: @C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP Support Framework\Resources\HPNetworkCheck\HPNetworkCheckPlugin.dll,-102 - {25510184-5A38-4A99-B273-DCA8EEF6CD08} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP Support Framework\Resources\HPNetworkCheck\NCLauncherFromIE.exe
O9 - Extra button: @C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote\Evernote\Resource.dll,-101 - {A95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - res://C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote\Evernote\EvernoteIE.dll/204 (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: @C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote\Evernote\Resource.dll,-101 - {A95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - res://C:\Program Files (x86)\Evernote\Evernote\EvernoteIE.dll/204 (file missing)
Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
Click on the "Fix Checked" button
When completed, close the application.
Here are some suggestions for you to consider:
I suggest continue to use Avast AV, it?s one of the best I have tested..
Use the windows Firewall.
Disable Windows Defender real time scanning so it doesn?t interfere with Avast real time which is better IMHO. To do this: goto -> Start -> Control Panel -> Windows Defender -> Tools -> Options -> Real-time Protection -> uncheck: Use Real-Time Protection -> Click Save and exit.
You still have a lot of services running for programs that you may not use or need. These are not Bad programs but, if you?re not using them they have overhead that will just tend to slow you down. My suggestion is to get rid of anything you?re not using by going through the add/remove list and making that decision then use Revo to uninstall it. Before uninstalling, if you don?t recognize it then Google it to see if it is necessary or not.
Other than that, you seem to be in good shape. Let me know how the computer is now doing and if there is anything else I may be able to help you with..
Best regards,
2oG

You removed the ToolbarUpdater with Revo that?s why this line shows (file missing) The service is still there dead in the water. We can go ahead and remove it. HJT will not remove a Service; it just stops them from running. So we need to take an extra step:
First check and fix this line with HJT to clear the registry entry:
O23 - Service: vToolbarUpdater15.5.0 - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\AVG Secure Search\vToolbarUpdater\15.5.0\ToolbarUpdater.exe (file missing)
Then:
To Delete the Service
Please open Notepad. Ensure that word wrap is turned off. Click on Format and make sure that there is not a tick next to Word Wrap. If there's one, click on Word Wrap to remove it. Copy and paste the following in the code box into Notepad:
@echo off
sc stop ?vToolbarUpdater15.5.0?
sc delete ?vToolbarUpdater15.5.0?
exit
Click on File > Save As....
In the File Name box, copy and paste in fix.bat
In the Save as type box, select All Files from the drop-down list.
Click Save and save it to your Desktop.
Double click on fix.bat. A Command Prompt window will open and close quickly. That is normal.
That should remove the last junk that I missed :(

ddp,
For your and others benefit.. here are some tips for HJT.

At this time, HijackThis doesn't support 64-bit operating systems. However, you can still use it if you know how to interpret the logs. You can tell if it?s a 64bit system (Vista or Win7) by finding the ?Program Files (x86)? folder in the running processes of a HJT Log. 32bit systems do not use or have this folder. They only have the ?Program Files? folder. A 64bit system has Both!
Tips for analyzing a HJT Log on a 64bit system:
1.) Ignore the O23 entries with "@" signs and showing (file missing). They are Legal Microsoft services not normally showing in a HijackThis log.
2.) If you are checking a 64bit system, any 023 entry other than the ones with ?@? signs that show (file missing) are there because 64bit Windows placed them in the folder sysWOW64 instead of system32 and 32bit HJT can?t see them there so it shows (file missing). Do not fix them unless they are really a *bad* file..
3.) HijackThis will only show running processes for one user in 64bit (Windows 7 and Vista).
4.) If Windows is denying access to the Hosts file, run HijackThis as Administrator or disable the UAC first.
For both 32bit and 64bit always remember this:
Originally posted by Clamity Jane: You will see (file missing) or (no file) as well in some of the lines in different sections. You can only rely on that to be true in the sections for BHOs and Toolbars (02s & 03s)
When you see (file missing) in other sections, it may really NOT be missing. You will see it in the 09's and the 023s especially. The only time you should fix the (file missing) in those sections is IF AND ONLY IF you see a *bad* file there. Be aware that "fixing" doesn't remove the malware either. It's important to manually delete the file as well (plus any other recommended removal methods)
Except for the 02 & 03 Sections, good items listed in other sections with (file missing) should be left alone. Most often they ARE THERE but HJT doesn't see the file.
In this case I knew the file was missing because it had been removed by Revo, therefore the Service played no role and could either be removed or left alone?

2oG, I removed the specific file entry from hjt as you recommended, but I also have a helluva lot of other entries in hjt w/ "file missing" at the end. Do I "Fix" them too?
n/m I read your instructions on the 64 bit hjt you were pointing out to ddp & see that they are Legal MS entries.
Well,I created that batch file, removed the AVG toolbar, and everything else you instructed. Am I good?

I believe you are good to go.. How is it running now?
Just keep working on eliminating anything you don't use or need, watch what you download and keep it defraged...
Enjoy,

HJT is old but it aint dead yet. I still use it for some things but it does have it's limitations. I always use it to put a stop to programs that think they need to run all the time when the computer is running and chew up memory and resources...
