I have YLOD PS3 and want to wipe my hard drive, I have a Kingston drive reader and USB cord, but my new PS3 does not recognize the old PS3 hard drive through the USB port. I simply want to wipe the drive before I sell the old YLOD PS3, any ideas? (Note, My PC does not recognize the drive but I expected that, was hoping new PS3 would)
Normally the PC should recognize the harddrive when connected through a SATA port. Make sure your harddrive isn't fried, maybe that was the reason for the YLOD in the first place.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
Your PC will detect the PS3 hdd, but cannot read it. You can format it via disk management. Or you can place it in your new ps3, have either the latest firmware or the firmware currently on the ps3 on a usb stick then format it via the ps3. New PS3 will ask you to press and hold Select+Start to do so.
