I am burning G05 discs at 4X....time for a full disc is about 14 minutes or so. I was always using the G04 riteks on my older A05 burner. I already sent a letter to pioneer regarding this. I know the hacked firmware will let me write at higher speeds, but c'mon this is a popular brand of media. I don't want the 12 or 16X I just want to do something over 4X....well I guess I did want the 12 and 16...otherwise I would have bought the 107.

here is my response from Pioneer about the incompatibility of the G05 discs:
Thank you for contacting Pioneer Electronics, Inc.
We expect new firmware to be available in the coming weeks, but don't have exact dates.

Is there a limit to how many times you can flash the firmware??
I really don't understand why this drive is giving so many people issues??? My last pioneer drive worked like a dream. Flashed it once and never ran into any issues at all. Did they rush this drive onto the market or something??

That's true....
But I'm not even that worried about burning at 12x or 16x at the moment. I'd just like to see a decent 8x burn time.
The whole reason I got the drive was to cut my 4x burn times in half until the faster media hit the market.

I agree with Loki...I am just looking for an 8X write. I hope the G05 workout for you. Unfortunately they didn't work for me. I think pioneer just released the drive a little too early and we are paying the price. I do think they will sort it out within a month though. They will have to sort this out by the time the retail version comes out en masse and everyone starts buying these drives at Best Buy and Circuit City.

DVD Info Pro tells me the media is rated 8X, but the drive is going to use the 4X write strategy. Fine whatever.
I wanted to share with others that I just picked up Memorex DVD+R code:CMC MAG E01. Now Nero will let me record up to 16x. I have only tried 8X as of write now. It took me 8 mins to burn 4 gigs. Under DVD Info Pro it gives me available write descriptors up to 16X. Pioneer really needs to get onto implementing this Ritek Media into its firmware properly.

Dig out an ata66/100/133 cable (80 pin) cable and connect your 108 to it, then check bios, and at bootup, it will say udma 4, it might be needed for faster burning than 8* for 8* though i would have thought udma 2 would be good enough, i ain't tried my 108 yet, to busy flashing 107 XLB's, but in windows make sure that it says UDMA 4, it might help.
