i have recently had trouble with my dvd-rom as it seems to get CRC errors on a lot of disks i have burned... (generally arita ritek G04 disks)

now, i need a new drive, so i need one that:

:: reads fast (including spinup time!)
:: can remove riplock on
:: can make region free
:: can read loads of diff types of disks...

also.. if anyone in uk can say best place to get a recommended one from that would be sweet!

Hi,

The Lite On 166S is about as good as it gets. It rips at full speed right out of the box, reads everything you can stuff into it and a small region free utility is avalable for it. Here's a link to the region free utility and the latest firmwares:
