Hello everyone,

My first question is: I have a 16x Sony DVD-ROM drive and a Sony DRU-500AX. I have spent the last few weeks backing up my extensive DVD collection so that my kids don't ruin everything. However, when I use DVD Shrink or Alcohol 120% or DVD Decrypter, the reading speed is a very slow 1.7-2.0x. The max I have seen it decode the movies is at 2.0x! Is this normal? How can I make it faster?

My second question is: Has anyone had any problems with the new Nero update and WinDVR 2? I installed the new Nero update, and my WinDVR has gone crazy.

Any help would be appreciated

Check your reader is set to DMA in device manager, it sounds like it is stuck in PIO mode.

Have a look in device manager, IDE controller, Primary and Secondary controllers, advanced.
Should be set to DMA, but I think yours will be showing PIO mode.
Here you can change them to DMA etc.

If you can't, it may well be that windows is locked into PIO mode.
You can uninstall the reader and reboot - this may cure it, or uninstall the IDE controller that the reader is attached and reboot.

This should cure it.

...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............
Beware of the Pixies - they move in over night and turn your life upside down
