Pieman ... if you had a problem, I would have responded. This isn't a problem, it's more of a guessing game because you have porvided very little info. This makes nearly any response a waste of time.

Since you have provided nothing to go on, I will tell you both programs are legitimate in their own right, and I would suspect both programs are simply doing/displaying something differently.

I'd chalk it up to difference in the software as well :)

Hi doc....i just couldnt understand the differant read rate results between what should essentially be the the same test!.My set up is xp2400, asus a7v266e mobo(1011 bios), 768 crucial ram(pc2100) seagate 16ogb(primary master) hitachi 200gb (secondary slave) pioneer 107d (1.18 patched)(secondary master) lgdvd rom (primary slave) xp home sp1 all with updated drivers.Burning process is DVD Decrypter 3230, DVD2One 1.50,Nero 5.51056.Occasionally I use shrink 32015, or CloneDVD 2073.Media used is Arita 8x GO5 dye,Traxdata 8x ritek dye,Piodata 4x ritek GO4 dye,Datawrite grey 8x fuji/prodisc dye,Clonedisc GO4 ritek dye,Ridisc 8x ritek GO5 dye, ridata 4x ritek GO4 dye.Im ofthe opinion that i can discount a media prob due to the fact that ive tried so many from differant suppliers.
Everything was fine up until about 6 weeks ago when i started to get bad burns that would either fail completely or stick/pixelate.I had nothing new added either hard/soft ware or viral/trojan.For some reason i could not scan disc my hdd, and as a result reformatted, reinstalled.Still the same problem,so i bought my current hdd, and also replaced the 107 and rom drive. This cured the scan disc problem, but still had bad burns. The burn was fine until around 3 gig, then started to have wild read speed variations until the end of the burn.I changed the cables, and drives as previously mentioned.Checked my ram using a memory check program from microsoft, paging file, checked dma enabled (opticals dma 2, hdd dma 5).Reformatted and reinstalled again having nothing but Nero on...still the same.Checked the psu, no probs shown with asus probe.I have no other apps running when im ripping/burning,no screensaver and i defrag every day.The only facility i have to glean any performance info on the burn is by using dvdinfopro and Nero dvdspeed.Which is why i cant understand the differance. What the hell is going on??!! Time for a new mobo?Im sorely tempted!!

This is a lot more info, and I can see your frustration.

One thing that jumps out is Nero 5.5. I would suggest downloading the Nero 6 trial and see what happens. It also has InfoTools, and so I would check both Configuration for DMA (just to confirm) and ASPI, to make sure the ASPI is properly installed. The Nero 6 trial is good for a month, and then you can dl it again. InfoTools will also tell you what firmware version your burner has, and you should make sure that it is current.

If Nero 6 doesn't work, create a burn log and post it here. Remember to edit out your SN. It starts with 1A23- .

pieman...you say you tried Nero 6, and then you give a 5.5 burn log? What did you do, re-install 5.5?

I've looked at a lot of Nero 6 burn logs, but not 5.5. I suspect they would be the same, but I've not seen one like this yet. All in all, I would say you are not even beginning to burn. I haven't caught just why, but I have some ideas.

There are several things I would like to suggest, but I need to establish a baseline that I am comfortable in working with ... otherwise I am just guessing. It's possible that someone else could show up on this thread and wave a magic wand, and get you to working, but I can't. I need a systematic approach, and that will require your cooperation in doing what I ask. To begin with, I need for you to install Nero 6. Use their Clean Tools first. And, don't install the InCD package. Once Nero 6 is installed, post a burn log.

________________
EDIT: In looking at the burn log, the 31% memory usage looks high to me. Typically burning is neither memory nor CPU intensive.

The other thing that sticks out is that there isn't any buffer under-run protection enabled. If you had Nero 6 installed, I know other things we could check also.

It is also important at this point to know what you are ripping and encoding with, and the particular movie you are working with.

Hi Pieman,

I concurr with Doc409, you really should see if Nero 6 gives you the same Queueing error that is occuring with Nero 5.5, if it does, then you could have a media compatibility issue or a firmware issue. I did not check to see if you have the latest firmware for your recorder.

But basiclly, the Nero software is issuing a write command, and the recorder is busy and the command goes into a queue. After a set period of time, the command is reissued, but as you can see from the log file the recorder is busy each time. After a while, the process times-out and you get an error message and the process fails.

pieman ... I don't like spending money when I don't have to, and the reason I upgraded to Nero 6 is because Nero 5.5 had problems with the latest releases of the softwares I was using.

I've been rather busy, so sorry about my slow reply.

Just a quick note first. Could you edit out the bulk of the 5.5 burn, and the middle of the 6.o burn in order to shorten this thread? It may make it a little less frustrating for anyone wanting to contribute.

Did I understand that you replaced your Pioneer 107 burner? Did you replace it with another 107?

Anyway, can the 107 do anything, like burn a data CD? Or, a Data DVD? This would be helpful to know.

It took me a while to figure that one too. Look on the brownish bar right above your post. To the far right there is a notepad and pencil. Click that and you will be able to edit your posts.

It would help to take out the middle lines of "queue again later" text.

Did you go to the official company site to get the firmware upgrade for your new burner?

Hi Pieman,

Can you test with a DVD-RW or DVD+RW disc? For two reasons: 1) so that you can see if this occurs with any DVD media, and 2) so you do not waste any media in the testing.

And have you been using this same source Video for each of your tests? If you have, can you try another source video and see if it occurs with that as well?

At least we know that the cause was not something wtih Nero 5.5, so there is no need for you to upgrade to Nero 6.6 :-)

hi guys.....got rid of the 'queue later' data...thanks again! When i bought my 2nd 107 i tried it with the official pioneer firmware, and cos it was no differant flashed it with v1.18 from RPC-1.The probs happen with all vobs from any dvd...and i cant hang around too long using a 2x rw (never had much success with rewritables!!) and i dont mind a few coasters. My wife arrived home about an hour ago with a new mobo cos she is pi**ed off with me moaning...asus a7v600-x so i might stick it in and see what happens!!It must be a hardware thing cos i was using the existing programs for months with no grief

talk soon

thanks again

pieman ... you have certainly covered all the standard bases in trying to find the problem.

Concerning an original problem of not being able to use scandisc, I had the same thing with defrag included. It was a virus, and a zero write/re-install solved the problem. As an added precaution, I always begin a fresh install from the ground up. (My understanding is that even a fresh install with a reformat won't get rid of a boot sector virus.)

With your scandisc solved, you still aren't able to write VOB files. Since the ASPI is OK, DMA is OK, and firmware and cables are OK, it seems it must have something to do with the software from the get-go. You have a new OS installed, so that's not it. In order to rule out corrupt Decrypter and Shrink files, I would download these again. I, and others, have dl'd corrupted Shrink files since the new 3.2 release. I don't understand how this happens, but it does.

And as ccampbell suggests, I would try a different DVD. I do understand a lot better now how all of this distilled down to your original question and DVD InfoPro, and trying to see if something was wrong with the Bruce ALmighty DVD.

This might also be a problem with your CPU. They do strange things sometimes. Here's a couple of utilities to round things out, although they may not tell you 100% if the CPU is bad. It is worth a try, though:

CPU burn in ? temp tester
http://users.bigpond.net.au/cpuburn/

Motherboard monitor ? temp of CPU, MoBo, etc.
http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

One thing is for sure ... by the time you get this figured out, you'll be able to offer others some expert advice !!! :)

PS: Thanks for editing the posts.
