Im using an IBM Thinkpad T30, it doesnt say on IBMs site what chipset it has. There are some Controllers in device manager that are intel 82801, which ive read is part of the intel 810 chipset, which in fact is one of their laptop chipsets. So am i to assume i have an intel 810 chipset in this thing?

Okay....update....
i knew i had ian intel chipset, and turns out intel has a Chipset identification program (not sure if it will work on ANY chipset)

I ran it, and i have an intel 845 MP/MZ

However, there are no intel USB 1.1 drivers for any motherboards, thats all windows xp, intel doesnt provide any.

Any advice on what i should do?

Hmmm...
I upgraded to SP2, did the Intel INF update...
and now Nero says...

"Nero - Burning Rom has a known compatibility issue with this version of Windows. For an update that is compatible with this version of Windows, contact Ahead Software. "

Any advice?

Hello. I have just proved soemthing to myself. The root of our problems is not the external case, but the garbage Windows drivers. Each time I try to burn a DVD through any program in Wiondows, it fails. I went to my Linux OS (on the same computer), and burned my DVD without any problems. My setup is as follows: SuSE Linux 9.1 Professional, K3B burning software, HP dvd420i DVD burner, Bytecc ME-340 USB 2.0 case. If this helps anyo0ne in the search for a fix for this problem, I am very happy.

As per the suggestion of updating USB 2.0 drivers, I tried it, it did not work. Still waiting on Craig to email me the mmc.dll. If someone has it, please send it to vitali@vagonweb.com, it might be faster than waiting for Craig. (if you do email me, please post here so I don't get people wasting thier time emailing me when I already have it the mcc.dll file. Thanks.)

Good luck!

Vagonweb...

I definitly agree, its the drivers, but not just the windows ones...

I had Nero installed, DVD Decrypter, and DVD X Copy.. all installed, none worked.

I had also used a program called forceASPI that was supposed to make Nero use some adaptec ASPI

Well, i tried my burner on anther guys laptop (Same model/setup) but he had no ASPI drivers or programs. I installed DVD Decrypted, and it burnt fine.

So i uninstalled ALL the programs, and used ForceASPI to kill all the ASPI drivers. Then installed DVD X Copy and it worked FINALLY. However, as soon as i install any other program on top of one, it stops working.....

argh..and now i cant recreate it. So can get DVD Dec. to work, but DVD X doesnt work anymore. Anyone know how to delete ALL the drivers for dvd burning software...

I have no idea why this is... shouldnt the programs be able to use their drivers independantly....

Vagonweb,

I am sorry but in my case, I dont have any ASPI driver loaded ... only WNASPI32.DLL version 2.0.1.68 (07/22/2004)from Nero.
Since I have reinstalled my laptop I have only this dll loaded. Before I had many DLL loaded.

But the result is the same .... "Scsi command aborted".
I would try the famous mcc.dll file. Can someone send me this file to fa547684@skynet.be.

Thanks

Wow, this is the worst torture I have ever experienced in my life!!! I've waited a year or more before buying a dvd burner, all i have is a laptop, so of course it is external...I have tried everything in this thread so far and still can't burn a DVD. The only thing I have not tried is the ForceASPI thing

After reading this post, I have pretty much given up hope. As we all know, MS will never address this issue, if they do it won't be for years. Looks like Ahead can only do so much without some kind of USB driver update (some great help from Craig -- awesome). I must admit though, I will still keep trying, even without hope, i still have hope :)

I have heard of people using CopyToDVD and all there problems went away with there external burners. If you remove all of your other burning software and install this they say you will have no problems. I am not sure myself because I don't have an external burner, but everyone seem's to think it is something to do with Nero. you can get CopyToDVD here http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_applications/copytodvd.cfm

Good luck,

I sent the MMC.DLL file to Graycap, vagonweb and Giac0. Don't know if I was the first to do so, but maybe now I'll be the last. :-) Hope you will report back whether it works or not.

Strange - I received it as the zip-file from Craig and have no problems opening it (using IZarc). I wonder if the file gets corrupted during the send or receive process. I sent you the mmc.dll file unzipped, but I guess there is a risk this could be corrupted too then. Anyway, if it works all is good. Graycap and vagonweb, please let me know if you have problems opening your zip-files too (perhaps via email since it's not of help to others).

OK I got it here is the mmc.dll file I just copied it from my computer.

http://us.f1f.yahoofs.com/bc/4acfef08/bc/My+Folder/MMC-DLL.exe?bf2fGsBB63hgGELK

Just be sure to name it correctly when you save it "mmc.dll" and it will work fine.

Good luck all, Sorry about my other post them sorry SOB's wanted 9 frikin pounds for that file. How crazy is that?

i'd read every single post in this topic because i've got the same problem.

don't think it realy is a power problem.
most of the problems are with internal burners build into external cases, but i've got a BTC DRW-1108UI wich is a real external burner and i've got the same problem. and i'd read several other posts from people with real external burners who have the same problem.

it should be pretty weird if those different manifacturers all don't do their power supply right, shouldn't it?

i can burn dvd-r on my usb1.1 port, then everything works fine but it takes ages...

when i burn dvd-r on usb2 i get the same error, dvd+r(w) goes fine on usb1.1 and usb2.
i'm on winXP pro sp1

hope there will be a solution for this problem.

flyvholm,

Looks like your email server blocks sending .zip files, however, I recieved mine from Craig, and sent it to leavemealone@aol...not quite sure who that is.

I'll try the mmc.dll file, and report back.
