I´ve installed the FFD Show filter and gone thru the configuration.

But how does it actually work? Does it automatically decode the file-types you´ve selected it to decode or do you have to set it to do the decoding somehow?

Yes, it automatically decodes the filetypes you've set it to decode. If you use WMP6.4, like we all do ;-), once you play the video, go to properties and you should be able to see if the FFDShow is used for that particular video.

Hmm, maybe I´m doing something wrong.

When I play a DivX-clip and go to File->Properties->Additional settings in WMP 6.4 (finnish: Tiedosto->Ominaisuudet->Lisäasetukset) I see no FFDShow filter in the list, the one used is something called "Default DirectSound device".

I know I have FFDShow installed, what am I doing wrong?

Go to your Start menu and go to FFDShow settings and see that everything is setup correctly. You should see bunch of things in the list. I see something like this in my Properties > Advanced list when I play DivXs:

Default DirectSound Device
ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder
Morgan Stream Switcher
MPEG Layer-3 Decoder
Video Renderer
