OK

I'm not so proud that I cant admit when I'm wrong.

I uninstalled all Nero stuff using general cleaner. Then re-installed all 4 packages from the Nero site, and it works. So it looks like they have fixed it after all.

There Jeanc1, you can get off your soap box and leave me alone! I only started this thread to try and help others.... (Geeez some people !)

I still appreciate your help Taz...

Although, now im running into a different problem.

If I put in a DVD+R CD to record. It records fine. But if I put in a CD-R it stops responding. The red light on my case stays on constantly, the program becomes Uncloseable even through the task mananger and the CD Drive refuses to open by pressing the eject button. Now this is a rare problem.

Dont really know what to suggest here.

Have you got the latest firmware for your drive? What drive do you have?
Also you could try a different brand of CD-R, or maybe you got a bad batch?

Not much help I know, but I'll see if I can find a solution.

P.S. I guess we should start a new thread for this.

Don't bother with the clean tools. Just uninstall Nero Ultra Edition and install the latest version. If reinstalling package 2 breaks it again, leave it well alone. It worked for me....

Hey, I dont wanna cause any un-pleasantness here but, just maybe, I was provoked

Were still pulling our hair out on this issue. :-(

Our Engineers have not yet been able to duplicate this issue on any of our systems in our labs. They are aware of this link and are following every entry very closely, and the bug is still open.

We are hopping eventually that we will have a system in the US Lab or Germany that will show this symptom so we can finally takes steps to address it. But if we can not duplicate the issue, we can not resolve it.

This is not to say there is not an issue. There are too many reporting this issue in this forum, and that have used the work around provided by Taz to ignore it or disregard.

I wish I could provide better news, but we are hitting a brick wall on this issue so far.

Any and all feedback on this issue from others running into this issue, and are able to resolve it using Taz's solution would be appreciated. And if those who do run into this issue could do us a favor and send me a text file created by Nero InfoTool on their system too techsupport4@nero.com. I would be greatly in your dept. This may help our Engineers duplicate the issue.

Hi Craig

6.3.1.25 seems to have fixed this issue, however it returns with some of the plugins. Dont know which ones yet at I havn't had the chance to do much testing. However I would say that for most users this is no longer a problem.

Hmm, thats good to here. But I hate it when we resolve an issue without knowing what the cause was. :-(

Still, thats better than not resolveing it at all.

I'll wait a few weeks to be sure this has truly resolved the issue before closing the bug report.

I thought I'd share my experiences as I run a company that specialises in external DVD writers. I have sold over 900 External DVD Writers in the last year, most of them with Nero 6 software bundled.

I have seen the "SCSI command aborted" error in a number of instances, with different DVD Writers and Enclosures and its quite frustrating.

However, from my experience I would say that its not predominently a Nero issue but a HW compatibility issue between the DVD Writer and the USB to IDE controller in the enclosure. The reason I say this is because when I get these errors its not just
Nero that has the problem... software like DVD X Copy also fails.

At the moment we sell the Pioneer 108 and the LG 4120 in external enclosures, and I'm starting to have problems with the Pioneer 108. In a new enclosure I have just sourced which uses the Prolific Firewire/USB2 chipset I ALWAYS get "SCSI Command Aborted" errors with Nero 6 (6.3.1.25 and earlier), but only when using USB2. Firewire is perfect. Obviously we are not selling that enclosure with Pioneer 108s in it!

However, in the same Prolific enclosure with the LG4120 there is no problems whatsoever, with USB2 or firewire.

Also, I am finding that one of our most reliable enclosures (over the last 12 months) that uses the ALI chipset for USB2 and Oxford911 for Firewire sometimes has problems with the Pioneer 108. Most of them work fine, but occassionally an enclosure being tested (once assembled) reports these "SCSI Command Aborted" errors. If it has them then it always has them... its not the type of thing that happens on and off. However, every enclosure that has these errors with the Pioneer 108 works perfectly with the LG 4120.

Our most popular enclosure is USB2-only and it uses the ALI chipset. It has never had any problems with the Pioneer 108 or the LG4120. Its just perfect.

So in summary, the Pioneer 108 does seem to be quite fussy in some way when it comes to interfacing with certain IDE to USB controllers. A couple of customers with the early releases of Pioneer 108s did find that a BIOS update fixed "SCSI Command Aborted" errors. I have extensively tested with both the 1.10 and latest 1.14 BIOSes for the Pioneer 108 and it makes no difference in the cases I reported above.

So can Nero do anything about it? Maybe there is a way Nero talks to the Writers that could work around their interfacing issues with USB2 to IDE controllers. Maybe a sequence of commands is being sent too fast, or something like that which could be controlled/changed in the Nero software?

Howvever, as I mentioned, even if Nero does manage to work around these problems there will still be other burning software that continues to fail with the same hardware configuration... so for me its not a perfect solution. I can only hope that Pioneer improve their BIOS to be more compatible with external enclosures.

I tried the solution suggested in earlier post to clean the system of any ahead files and do a fresh install.
this works fine... however when the plugins are installed the issue is back.
I removed the plugins (dll files) and it worked again.

now figure out which particular plugin triggers the RMADEC.EXE

do we actually need all these plugins?

Here follows a list of the plugins I loaded, for the use of the engineers.

Aac.dll
aacenc32.dll
Aiff.dll
DefConvertor.dll
DVDMPEG2Enc.dll
mp3PRO.dll
mp3PRO_dmo.dll
mp3PRO_hlp.dll

nxMyMPC.dll
nxMyOFR.dll
nxMyOgg.dll

This issue does appear to be related to the Audio Plugins from http://neroplugins.cd-rw.org and if you are not logged in with Admin Rights.

The problem description shows, that the file will be generated during the start of Nero.
The file will be generated in the AudioPlugins folder. So we assumed that a plugin is the cause for that problem.
Our Engineer went to the page http://neroplugins.cd-rw.org and found there a plugin with an almost identical description:
RM/RA "RealNetworks RealMedia/RealAudio".
They downloaded this file, extracted it (to nxmyreal.dll) and searched in the file for rmadec.exe
And found it.
That means: The RM/RA Plugin is one possible cause for the problem.

You have to start NE to get the misbehaviour immediately.

The encoder creates 3 additional files and a folder with 52 files in the audioplugins folder:
pncrt.dll
rmadec.exe
selfdel.exe

If your logged in as normal user without admin rights then you will get crashs of Nero:
1. E.g. under encoding: If you click on "settings" then Nero crashs immediately.
2. or: If you click on the plugin in the "Plug-in lookup" dialog then you get an "internal error"
(reason: under this condition you don't have write rights to the audio plugins folder)

Then they checked if other plugins do the same (They downloaded all plugins):
The answer is: YES.
They got the following files:
AACMP4.EXE
lpac_codec_api.dll
lpaccodec.dll
OFR.EXE
PNCRT.dll

And they got the following folders:
AC3
Musepack
PsyTEL
Shorten
Speex
WavPack
That means, that Nero will produces crash if you are not logged in as Admin. This would explain
some of the reported issues on this forum and Emails from customers directly.

We are doing more research on this issue now that we know exactly what is occuring, so as to isolate and resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

I want to thank everyone on this forum who contributed to this thread, as it helped our Engineers greatly in being able to duplicate and isolate the problem.

Craig

I have the same problem with IOMagic USB2 enclosure and NEC ND-2500

I was using this burner almost every day for a few month, but only yestarday started having this problem. Yestarday was the first time I burned +R dvds after which I started having problems with -R (about 50-75% of the time). I tried a new drive (same brand) in the same enclosure and got the same problem. Both drives started making clicking noise on -Rs, which I haven't heard before (although some people have reported this noise). I tried this burner as internal and it works just fine. Nothing on my system has changed in the past 3 month, except I added a new Minolta 1350W printer connected to USB. Same Nero software 6.3.1.20 (or 8.3.1.20 - can't tell for sure).
I also tried burning on Win03 (another partition on the same PC) and have the same problem (Win03 doesn't have this new printer installed). The only common software installed on both OSs is 321 studios and Nero (same version). No dvdshrink or any other burning software.

I'm not a hardware expert like most of guys here, but can someone explain why +Rs are working fine while -Rs are working 50% of the time (or less). Sometimes this thing can't even read -R dvd just burned, but later can.

Thanks

LeeM

I've seen on otehr threads some people reporting some registry tweaks which "fixed" their problem. I tried their fixes and nothing worked. I want to stress out one thing - it works, but only about 30-50% of the time. So, if it worked for you after you tried something don't report it as a fix until you tried half a dozen or so dvds. I was able to burn about 6-8 -Rs today, but then the problem came back.

So, the short term solution for me is +Rs. I wish I knew why these are working.

P.S. Among other thigns I also tried upgrading my dvdrw with latest drivers from NEC - 1.07.
-Rs I used are Khypermedia and Verbatim DigialMovie (rated as ones of the very best, alhtough I've never had any problems with any brands)

I'm sorry, but I don't know how to edit posts here, so I keep posting replies.
To summarize this problem on my pc..:
1. Not related to RealNetworks or any other 3rd party software, since my win03 is clean. It has nothing but 321 studio and Nero.
2. Not cheap media issue. Verbatim DigitalMovie is one of the best and I've never had any problems burning it before (as well as khypermedia and a couple more -R no name brands)
3. Not sp1 or sp2 issue, since doens't work on win03.
4. I only had nero63120.exe installed on Win03, so not a plug-in issue, unless some plug-ins come with it.
5. Not the drive itself, since I tried a brand new drive in my usb enclosure and had the same problem. Also, works just fine when used as internal.

The weired part:
1. -R works about 30% of the time
2. +R works just fine.
3. -R stopped working after first +Rs were burned - (fujifilm (maid in japan)first few +Rs had some tipping near the outer edge).

I'm out of ideas on what could go wrong. Could it be something outside of windows?

hi Mr_Taz_UK, i had that same problem with Nero 'hanging' I did your batch file thing and it worked, ive never done one of those before, you made it so easy, I dont think its service pack 2 tho, ive been using Nero for a while with SP2 no probs, BUT i recently installed a WHOLE pile of junk from my brothers 'mixed programs cd' just trying stuff out on my computer then getting rid of it, ive ended up with a whole bunch of new stuff and some great adware... T.T i assumed it was one of those things causing the prob seeing as Nero never gave me any trouble BEFORE i got 'installer-happy' and dumped a whole pile of crap on my poor pc... anyways im about to format my PC, which is why i needed Nero! and hope it will fix the problem WITHOUT having to keep using that thing you made (which was very helpful in letting me back up my stuff before the big format!)

Thats the problem with 'mixed program cd's' you never really know what your getting.

It seems to be the third party plugins that are causing the problems with Nero. I believe Ahead are working on this. Maybe Craig (ccampbell) can confirm.

For you adware problem I can highly recommend adaware from www.lavasoftusa.com

Free version is available. Be carefull how you use it make sure you know what you should remove, and how!!!

Glad I could help :o)

I do use adaware, i have adaware6PE, its usually VERY good, but its saying its clean, even though im getting new popups every five minutes (even when IE isnt open) i ran norton antivirus2005 thinking it might be a virus and would you believe it actually detected it as adware (i my old norton didnt do that!) but it couldnt remove two of them... anyway im getting right off topic here, im just glad we got Nero working so i can clean this PC out... its very overdue...

Yes, we are still looking into the Plugin issue. Though we have found quite a number of users who had this issue no longer encountered it after upgrading to Nero 6.3.1.25

But we are still doing testing to confirm if this is 100% true.

Well hello gang,

I found an easier method to get yourself going again was to move all the nxxxxx.exe files in the C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero directory either into another directory or Zip.
Then, I reinstalled simply to refresh any missing files

I then found Nero was back to normal.

Hope this helps as a temporary fix.

Rgds.

Sorry C121176, but I fail to see how this solves our plugin issue. Plugins are located in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead directory.....?
