Who is the actual manufacturer of Mad Dog Burners. I heard a rumor it was NEC but no confirmation. Does anyone know about these drives? They certainly are priced right.

Use a buring software program that allows adjustment of burning speed. Roxio, Nero, even DVD decryptor allow you to choose a lower setting than the rating of the blank disk.

If you burn 2x on 4x Ritek media, results should be good. Why do you want to burn at 1x?
If you insist on 1x, I know DVD Decryptor will burn an image file at 1x (must select instead of "Max" when the burning screen comes up).

BlindWrite 5 Tweaker will allow DVD write speeds down to .5X when used with BW5.
