Trying to Backup The World is Not Enough

I have been BACKING UP my DVDs for some time now, and have rarely ran into any problems that I couldn't work out. However, this has me stumped.
I have The World Is Not Enough - Bond movie which is a dual layer disc that works completely fine on my computer AND standalone player.
However, when I am trying to back it up using DVD-decrypter and DVD2One (My usually successful method), I find that both the inital File Rip from decrypter AND the final DVD sized product from DVD2One are in a weird aspect ratio.
I then tried DVD-Shrink, and this didn't fix the problem. Shrink ALSO analysed the disc with the wrong aspect ratio. Everyone looks REALLY thin, AND there is not only black bars at the top and bottom (normal) but on the sides as well!
I have no idea why this should be occurring, because I have been burning all week without problems, and haven't touched any settings. I'm very perplexed and think that this could perhaps be some sort of write protection on the disc?

Hi charcol. :)
What you describe sounds very much like an anamorphic video viewed on a 4:3 display.
Maybe the anamorphic "flag" got lost somehow during ripping (???), so your tv does not automatically switch to this mode and stretch the image.
I'd suggest you use IfoEdit to check.
- Start IfoEdit.
- Click on "Open".
- Select the IFO file corresponding to the movie titleset (normally the VTS_x with the most files).
The image above shows what an anamorphic stream settings look like.
Let us know if that's what you get.

Oops, I forgot to mention you have to double-click on the highlighted line for the info to appear. :o
In the example above: "Video : Mpeg2 720x576..."

Thanks for your reply!
But does that mean that using DVD-decrypter to rip it onto my computer in the correct format won't work? Or do I have to tinker with the settings in DVD-decrypter more...
Or is this something that can't be copied properly?

One question that might give us a clue as to what happened: did you rip all the files with DVD Decrypter, or just the movie ones?
If the latter you could try again, ripping all the files.
If the former, could you check the IFO file as I suggested?

OK, did what you said with IFOEDIT: It says:
mpeg-2 720x576 (PAL) (PAL 625/50) (16:9) (Letterboxed)

If you double-click on that line, is the boxed checked "Automatic Letterboxed"?

Well, this is how it should normally be.
Your set-top should read that info and relay it to your TV.
Your TV would then automatically stretch the video horizontally, filling up the whole area.
Your TV is widescreen, right?
It is also set to automatic, as far as ratio is concerned?
The original DVD, played in the same set-up, with the same settings and connections both for your DVD player and TV, displays properly?
If yes to all the above, I'm affraid I'm stumped. :/

OK, well, that's the thing. That's reading from the disc. When I RIP the disc to HDD, it changes everything, and the video is ripped (Without any processing) with stupid black bars ALL the way around. And the video is squashed horizontally.
When PLAYING the actual disc, it works perfectly on my computer and TV.
So Im thinking its a setting in dvd-decrypter or something.
Any ideas?

When you tried using DVD Shrink, was it from the files ripped by DVD Decrypter?
If yes, I'd suggest you try ripping/processing the original disc with DVD Shrink.
If no, then I have no ideas I'm affraid.

Yeah, no - I was about to rip it from the disc using Shrink, but then I did the preview and it had the same black bars all the way around! So I didn't end up going through the whole process. Just going to check the DVD-decrypter site.
If I work it out, I'll post it here. Thanks for all you help!
