Hi folks,

I have been using this site for a bit now and after weeks upon weeks of being able to backup my DVDs I have hit a snag.

Yesterday, while trying to write to a DVD-R media, the burn process failed and has continued to fail ever since. I can not understrand why after probably nearly 200 burns my PLEXATOR PX-708UF does not want to burn my DVDs anymore. However it is able to backup on my HD just fine.

Anyway here are two recent logs that I have for analysis.

So far I have had:

3 DVD-R fails.
2 DVD+R fails.
1 DVD+RW fail.

------------------------

Any help fixing this would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

BTW - I have used NERO, COPYTODVD and DVDShrink with the same problem cropping up. I have used a few types of media too -- Verbatim, Gigamaster (a bad model I know, but I have burned no problem before, and XIDEX.

DMA is off for every single one of your drives. Not a good thing.

Try this:

Go to Device Manager >

Expand the tree for IDE ATA/ATA Controllers >

Find the Primary IDE, right click it and go to Properties >

Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall then OK.

Repeat the process for the Secondary IDE.

Now reboot and Windows should detect and reinstall the drives.

What brand/type media are you using?

Whooooooosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like a Piranha seeking it's next victim............

Straight in there, nice one Nephilim, my thoughts exactly - my thoughts do happen from time to time, but sadly are not in unity with my fingers to type it before you..............................

As the 'Top Mod' suggested, your devices are reported to be 'not in DMA' which would mean PIO Mode and would cause various sporadic issues.......
Do as he suggested and that should cure it.....

Actually, it would not surprise me if he checks in Windows and finds that the devices are actually in fact in DMA, the reason I say this is the fact that ALL devices are reported not to be in DMA.

If so do you think this would relate to an ASPI related issue then, or he is maybe using an Nvidia driver instead of the windows ones, as I have seen several forum members having slight issues with these drivers.........in the fact that Nero reports that all devices are DMA off.......

A possible conflict between the Nvidia drivers and Nero perhaps..................

Okay,

My Machine has SCCI drives if that means anything.

The list of DVDs I was using is at the end of my first post (3 types). I have now bought a 4th (Imitation) to see if that solves anything, however something strange recently happened.

Last night I downloaded ForceASPI 1.7 as someone who wa having similar problems said that it helped them.

After installing the new ASPI I then retried burning to a DVD-RW that failed before and it passed.

Then I tried a DVD-R and it failed.

So I unintalled like the Nephilim suggested and this did not solve the problem. I have another failed DVD-R this morning.

Now I am trying a NEW Imitation disc to see if that works. Will update you on if this is probably a DISC issue or not but as you can see from above one disc did not burn only to burn okay the next time.

This problem is a SUDDEN BURN ERROR seems to be pretty common, especially when people have not changed anything with their machines recently.

Odd eh?

The new Disc(IMATATION) has burned okay.

No onto #2.

Will report back in a minute but it looks like a case of bad media.

However... the DVD+RW did not write the first time. Now it is okay again.

It may pay divivdends to search for an updated firmware at either the manufacturer's website or here:

Hi again.

Okay so here is low-down. Basically if you are having this problem then it is probably a BAD MEDIA issue. I tried several types of media, bought a new pack of media, and it worked without errors.

Thus I can only conclude that the media was bad.

However some anamolies did crop up. A good media disc (RW) did not record the first time but did the second time.

Anyhow the key is check your media and try it on someone else's machine if possible to see if the Disc is good or bad. If the media is good and your burner still does not work then try the above advise and if that does not work, Unintall/Reinstall software again and update everything including the firmware.

However bad media seems to be responsible for this SUDDEN DVD BURN FAILURE
