Hi all,

I'm not sure if the culprit is LAME or EAC (seems like LAME), but I have tried everything I can think of--ripping causes my computer to lock up. Ripping used to work fine, my computer was put away for the summer, I did a bunch of software upgrading, now it doesn't work.

First I'll put system specs, then a description of the problem:

MB: MSI K7N2-Delta ILSR (MSI Part No. MS-6570-030), Bios v7.60
NVIDIA nForce 5.10 unified driver
Athlon XP 2800+ "Barton", 2.08GHz, 333MHz FSB
2x 256MB Kingston PC3200 ValueRAM DDR400
Chaintech GeForce FX 5700 Ultra 128MB
NVIDIA Detonator 61.77
Seagate ST3120024A 120GB Barracuda ATA
Plextor PlexWriter 24/10/40A PX-W2410A (Firmware 1.04)
Windows XP Pro SP2, most current DirectX
EAC 0.95b5 (&0.9b4 same issues)
LAME 3.96.1 (&3.90.3 same issues)

Without fail, when I try to rip and compress a CD, the system hangs. No mouse, CTRL-ALT-DEL does nothing, it just locks tight. No BSOD. It is usually after a few songs have been compressed; sometimes it happens before the CD is finished ripping, sometimes after, as far as I can tell. I have never had problems with heat and I do plenty of other resource-intensive activities. I run the latest version of Grisoft AVG and the free ZoneAlarm, but closing them before ripping did nothing. I have DaemonTools 3.44 installed with 1 or 2 virtual drives at any given time, but it is not running when I am trying to rip.

I am using EAC profiles from chrismyden.com. I can't think of any other pertinant information.

I've tried all kinds of CDs, very new and scratched, that doesn't seem to have an effect. Any help would be appreciated!

If this is not the right forum for this, could you suggest a better place to post?

Thanks,
Noctrine
