I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe board w/built in G-Force 2 grafics card(AMD 1800+ processor + 1.5G DDR ram). I just got a Memorex 16X double layer, dual format DVD recorder- I hooked up hard drive as master and reader as slave, then I hooked up Mem DVD as secondary master. down loaded nero6 and also DVD shrink to start coping dvds. Comp seems to work fine exept when using DVD shrink. The comp will crash and restart. at first it said device driver error and now it says error caused by graphics device driver.HELP what do I do?

Have you updated all possible drivers?

Ya, I just did that last night and after work I'll check and see if it made a difference. Thanks

Just wondering if your comp is overclocked? I've seen overclocked computers spontaneously reboot when running certain programs, ie shockwave games. If it is overclocked, I would drop it back to stock and then run DVD Shrink again.

Rarely does my DVD Shrink 3.2 program work. It always crashes my computer. I have a top of the line system so it just doesn't make sense. I got so frustrated I even formatted my system. It worked about four times and now its back to crashing. Any ideas, I been trying to figure this out for almost a month.

It would help if you let us know:

Your system specs.

Everything you've already tried to solve this problem.

Any and all specific errors you're getting when using Shrink.

I have 512mb of ram, 140 G hard drive, 3.0 pentium 4.
with a side bus?

I start to shrink and my whole system crashes. I tried getting rid of B's clip which someone told me affects the shrinking. I have formatted my hard drive.

Does Shrink crash right away or does it crash when it starts encoding?

It will encode from 5% to 90% and then crash. Every so often it will just freeze my whole system. I never to anything will its running, everything is closed. I even uncheck the preview box in case that affects it.

My guess is you're having a heat issue. Encoding is extremely CPU intesive which in turn generates huge amounts of heat. If your system doesn't have adequte cooling the CPU will shut down or the system will freeze when temperatures reach a certain point.

A rough test would be to remove the side panel of your case, point a large fan right into the open case then try another encode. If it goes through then you'll need to consider adding some more fans and/or adjusting your existing ones for optimum flow by making sure fresh air is pulled in the front of the case then blown out the back.

Is this a factory PC or did you build it? If you built it you may want to reseat your HSF and make sure you're using enough thermal paste and that the HSF is locked down properly.

I had that same prob so I changed my CPU after diagnostics and now the system runs fine and I burn movies w/no prob. just a reminder it could also be the board. make sure your cpu is highly capitable w/your board for what you want your comp to do.

I understand the heat comments fine. I tried it last night and it doesn't work. Do you think I should just buy a program to do it? I'm getting really frustrated. Shouldn't DVD Shrink 3.2 just work fine?

It might be helpful to install Motherboard Monitor so you can watch your CPU temps as the encode progresses. It's a great little app that I use all the time.

http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

This only happens during an encode and at no other time with other software, correct?

Ya, no other software. Except I tried DVD Decrypter awhile ago and the same thing happened. I will to download the program you spoke of.

If it works out that your temps are reasonable an ASPI install/update might do the trick. Here's a link to the download and good instructions:

It does that sometimes. Try it again in a little while it should work :)

Your temps are very good for ºF.
