Your problem has all the hallmarks of a heat issue.

Now that I look at your temps a bit closer they seem strange to me in the fact that your CPU temps are consistently below your case temps when normally they're the other way around.

Plus the fact that your CPU temp during encoding is abnormally low for a standard air-cooled system. I have some heavy duty cooling in my case and a monster HSF and my CPU nudges 45ºC/113ºF during encoding.

Is your PC factory built or did you build it? Did you select the right motherboard when setting up Motherboard Monitor?

Good info I am gonna have to do that too, recently my PC has been freezing up. Mostly during intense games. Will try unOCing mine to see if it makes a difference.

Though I dont think I have EVER seen my CPU get hot....

If your board wasn't listed and you used a close approximation there's a good chance the temps were being reported incorrectly.

Have you tried reseating your HSF making sure you use enough theremal paste?

Have you defragged your drive lately?

I just defragged my drive but is it necessary if I recently formatted my harddrive? I don't how to do what you are talking about with the thermal paste and HSF.

Don't worry about the defrag if you recently formatted.

Is your PC home built or factory built?

What happens when you backup a single-layer movie that requires no encoding?

I solved my heat issue.

My sys would completely lock up and when I put Asus Probe in I found that half way threough a movie my CPU was hitting 138 degrees F. (I had it set to shut off automatically).

So picked up a new heatsink with copper conducter and upped the case to 3 fans. (Including on blowing out the side by the PSU) Now during heavy duty conversin (divx to mpeg2) my CPU bounces between 105 and 107 F.

So glad I found this thread. thanks!!!

I don't do that ever but the ones I have managed to encode and shrink burn no problem from my harddrive. Awhile ago I used to get maybe 1 out of 10 times I could encode but since I took it in to a tech and then formatted I encoded 4 times no problem and since then nothing.
