I recently purchased an iRiver. It will only play mp3 files. I use W. Media Player which puts them in mp3 format when I rip a CD. The problem is when I download music it is all in WMA format. I do not know how to change to default or convert to MP3. Anyone know how to download music in WM player into Mp3 format? Thanks

All you need is a WMA to MP3 converter. Personally, I think the best program for this is dBpowerAMP music converter. You can download it here:

If you have any problems, feel free to post!

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your help. I was successful in downloading dBpowerAMP Music Convertor software, but it says there is an error each time I try to convert the music file. It does not give any other detail. I've downloaded the music files through Musicmatch and they are downloaded as .wma files. It must be that they are protected. Any idea of any other download sites that do not use windows media player? It appears that both napster and musicmatch use windows media player. iTunes will will convert CDs, but not downloaded music. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Did you install the Windows Media audio codecs needed for that conversion?
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-wma.htm

If your files have DRM protection you will not be able to convert them. You can right click on a file and select Properties. If the file has DRM protection there will be a License tab and it should show something like Protected Content.

Of course any audio file that you can play on your computer can be recorded to another format using your sound card and a direct audio recorder.

HardDiskOGG is a good free one. See that site about how to add MP3 recording ability.
