My version of DVD2SVCD (1.2.2 build 3) doesn't allow me to select the NTSC to PAL tickbox (it's greyed out). My DVD drive is set to region 2, I am runningDVD region + CSS free and I have a region 1 disk that I wish to convert

if its greyed out it means that the dvd is already PAL. If it doesnt play in your PAL player, it means it needs the region code removed (I think IFOEdit can do this)

Newcomers,

If I see well you are a professional in this issue. I did everything exactly the same that you have written. I wanna convert a Home Video DVD (NTSC) to PAL to send it to Europe.
First I have tried to convert directly from the DVD and after I have created a image file (ISO) and I have tried the same. The problem is I alwasy get an error message which is the following:
"I/O error 103 The operation completed successfully"

Could you help me what I should do? Thanks!!!

This is the whole LOG:

Hi there,

I never activate dvd ripping as Ive never had the need for it, so maybe try turning that off and then trying again.

Other than that, look at the following link, looks like they had the same problem as you

http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/t168062.html

Sorry I couldnt help you much

I do not want to use the "rip" function if it is not necessary. You did not specify anything regarding that and I left everything as default. Anyway I do not know what this function does and what for. I just would like to convert NTSC DVD to PAL DVD in very good quality with menu too that is all.
What should I swich off? How should I set it up? The "go" icon has more functions which one I should pick?

I have tried to convert the DVD with only TMPG too but I got 2 files *.m2v and *.wav that I do not know how I can burn to DVD. The other thing is the size of m2v is 972MB and the wav is 271MB but the ISO file is 3500MB? Why did I get such a small file? But if the previous way work perfectly......

Thanks for your help!

I am gonna check the link that you suggested.

When using DVD2SVCD to do an NTSC to PAL conversion, you will lose the menus

If you have the *.m2v and *.wav files, you can put them together to make the .mpeg file (which thinking about it, you should have anyway).

Once you have this .mpeg file, you can then author the dvd using the mpeg

I really need the menu because as I mensioned that would be a home video and I did the menu. Is there any way to keep the menu?

Ok. I have the separate *.mpg files so if I could first to convert these files to PAL it would be great because to create a menu to use up these files is very easy so it could not cause any problem for me. When I used the PIXELA I could convert the whole movie to PAL but the quality was very very poor I meant terrible!!!! So the point is I could rearrange the menu but for it I need *.mpg in PAL system.
Now I have a NTSC DVD that I burned and I have the NTSC mpeg files too. I did the DVD from 7 separate mpg files and the menu orgenises these.

Thanks very much for your assistance!!!!! I think I sepent a month to solve this problem....not easy!!!!!

Hi All,

Can the reverse the topic to PAL to NTSC conversion? Would anyone here now what machine to use or any software to convert a DVD PAL home video to DVD NTSC?

As far a NTSC to PAL...I normally capture DVD movie onto Final Cut (fireware) and when I fianally done capturing the video. Set the ouput into MEG2 and I then go to DVD studio pro to place the meg2 and aif files and set the DVD for PAL.

I hope this helps...

Maybe I am not doing very well because all of things that I did were not good enough. I tried many type of programs but none of them was OK for me. I would be satisfied if I could convert a simple MPEG (NTSC) to MPEG (PAL) in very good quality (that is the point!). After that I could rearrenge the manu for the home video. Does somebody know a perfect software for it??? That I tried so far were terrible I mean the quality. Please somebody help me!!!!

Thanks!!!

DVD2SVCD -- NTSC TO PAL

Hi everyone!

I've followed newcomers instructions but the problem I face is that when the project has finished, the audio is significantly "slower" than the original NTSC audio.

Anyone help pls????

The quality should be the same when you compressed that video file to mpeg and if it's already into mpeg2 just pop it into DVD studio pro. Then author the DVD into PAL standards. Also, I've recently found out if the my audio tends to lag. Try to use Disk Warrior or Norton to index or defrag your computer. There should be anymore out of sync issues.

I hope this helps...

Thanks maraya.
That sync problem happened when I was just testing out on a 20 second NTSC video clip. I've just done a full 90 min NTSC to PAL conversion & the audio seems fine. It was just so slow with the test I did I was concerned. If it ever happens again I'll do as you say.
Thanks again!!!!

Did not you get two separate files (m2v, wav) after the conversion? If so, how you put into one mpeg?

I could convert the NTSC mpeg to PAL mpeg format and the quality is very good maybe it is exactly the same with the original. It is a home video and compare with the original movie, it is jumpping / cragged (it is not perfectly continuous) a little bit when I was sweeping with the camcoder. This is the only one problem. How can I filter this problem? Does sombody have any idea? I did that with TMPGen. Thanks!

I've just done a complete NTSC to PAL conversion & I've got the same problem again. The finished Mpeg is "slower" than the original NTSC. The result is a PAL Mpeg which lasts for over 120 mins but should only run for 97 mins.
Any ideas????

VHS tape tends to create that hiss and the only way I've lowwered the hiss is loading it into my editing system (final cut or avid pro) and us there EQ settings to knock out the low-end. I hope this helps...

Thanks Maraya for the info.
Unfortunately i just realized that i forgot to mention that i was trying to convert from NTSC Dvd to PAL Dvd and after the conversion there was hiss in the sound could barely hear anything.
The Audio Settings i left as default besweet,Madplay,Audio Bit rate=192,Stereo and AutoDetect Azid gain.

Would Final Cut or Avid Pro work for this situation??

Thanks once again

Fianl Cut would fix your problem if you use there audio settings and play with the EQ. Also, check in the meters and listen if you hear any hiss...if so- us those plug-ins. Then output the file as:

M2V
aif
16bit
48hz
PAL setting

That should be it...

Why not just buy a new DVD player that will play both PAL and NTSC. no more racking your brain and wasting hours converting...phillips dvp 642 works very well..about $80.00 cdn. also plays all region codes once you type in the code on the remote.
