Hey guys, Hopefully someone here will be able to solve this irritating problem Im having with my dvd burner, I've completely been unable to burn any dvd's as of just recently, I get the "internal target failure" message when I'm burning in nero., I've tried everything, different media, different firware, cleaned the lens, is there anything else I should b doing? Ive searched hundreds of posts with still no help to me, I would be eternally gratefully for any help or opinions that will solve this f*$cking problem.
Thanks in advance.

Here is my nero log.

Umm, Princo, (which I know is crap) Laser ( another cheap brand) TDK probably the most expensive brand I've used, I was thinking if the TDK didnt work, then that was it, maybe I'm wrong.
I've kinda heard Sony wasnt too bad, and maybe I should start buying dvd-rw so I stop wasting money on coasters.

This is probably not your problem, but have you updated your ASPI driver. The latest version is 4.71.2. The download has a file named aspichk that will verify what you have installed. The instructions for the installation are in the read me file. It can be a little tricky. I have been using Ritek Ridata, which are great or just search (Forums:DVD-R media) here for other equally good brands. But I used nothing but RW until I worked out my burns. Now I have burned 150 DVDs in the last month with a small jitter on 2 discs as my only problem.

I just noticed this...
Quote:
Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR)
HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK)
TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND)
Sense Key: 0x04 (KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR)
I'm guessing this is irrepairable?
If its a hardware error, why am I still able to burn cds?
Too bad its not the other way around, and it was cd's that I couldnt burn.. Hrrffph!

I would definitely get some RW's. Are you able to at least burn data dvd's?

Your LG drive hardware is at fault. I had similar on my 4mo old 4081. I called LG, told them I had internal Target failure, they faxed me DR form and issued DR#, I filled it in with the Sense Data from my Nero log, faxed it back, then I gave them my creditcard # as a guarantee. Within days they sent a brand new 4082B in a box as a replacement. I swapped the drives, sent the old one by Fedex back to LG. My creditcard was never charged.

This is what your Nero log indicates:
(I know this is not a SCSI device but the codes are the same:)

Opcode 2A = Write(10byte version) command failed when it tried to write 0x20 blocks of data into logical block address of 0x0D7020. Following Request sense command collected Sense data 04/44/86. The most important code is the sense key of 44 which is HW error. Then there is the combination of Sense code and Sense Code Qualifier, 44/86. Look it up in the SCSI spec. Not sure what exactly is the 44/86 but 44/00 is Internal target failure so it is likely to be only a flavour of that.

Bottom line: It will likely not recover on its own.

This is your data cut&pasted.
Sense Key: 0x04 (KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR)

My appologies. Your SenseKey=04, not 44 !!!

Indicates that the target detected a non-recoverable hardware failure (for example, controller failure, device failure, parity error, etc.) while performing the command or during a self test.
