Hi all,

New to this lark and not really a computer techie but will try my best...when trying to burn MP3 files to an LG GWA 4040N +- dvd and TDK +W & +RW I always get a burn failure and mostly for different reasons (I have 5 logs so far)I have tried all sorts but always seem to get the failure roughly at the same point in the process and the disc is unreadable and sometimes my laptop has been re-booted..latest log attached

Any Ideas please (in fairly easy terms)

Hi Sabre190,

I would first recommend that you enable DMA for your recorder, as I have seen this error caused by a disabled DMA.

Also, you should check to see if you have the latest firmware for your model recorder. Your recorder currently shows as version 1.01, and this could have a large affect on writes.

And last, does this occur only when you try and create an MP3 DVD? Do you have problems when creating a Data CD without any MP3 files? MP3 files are just data files as far as Nero is concerned for the operation you are doing, but my concern would be if one of those files may be corrupted in some form.

Thanks,

It only happens when burning mp3 onto dvd, they burn fine onto cd, got some dvd- to try see if it was just the dvd+ that was the problem.

Hi again,
How do I find/enable DMA?

You enable DMA from your Control Panel->System->HardWare->Device Manager and then enable 'DMA if Availabe' for all your Primary and Secondary IDE bus.

Thanks again,

DMA if available was already selected but that firmware patch seems to have sorted the problem out somewhat. I burned a full disc of mp3 on the old media and all went well, however, I can only play the first folder on my dvd's (this problem has always been there)and I think this may be a common problem with my DVD players and not the disc. Cheap DVD (LG and Brigmton)

I also have a Ferrari 3000 with the GWA-4040N DVD+/-RW drive and I have been having problems with it since sometime after installing Service Pack 2. The drive can READ any written disc, but refuses to recognize a blank disc (it claims there is no disc loaded and endlessly searches for it) or erase an RW disc, and this occurs for both CDs and DVDs.

Is it safe to try a Dell or HP firmware on this Acer version drive because there is nothing on the Acer page at all?
