i have read many threads about how external dvd burners and laptops seem not to work give scsi fail errors and so on. i just want to say i have had the same problem when i bought my pioneer 108 and hooked it up to my sony viao laptop via usb2. i have found a solution that seems to work for me. uninstall all the dvd burning software on your computer. shut down all tsrs. i use smart ripper or clone to burn a image thne nero to write it. i think nero is one of the better writers on the market i haven't tried many others. run a simulation at 2x - if that works then try running a write at 2x. i've tried 5 different type of dvdrs and wasted a whole 54 hrs and double the umber of dvdr tofind this out! end of day it seems to be a software process error not hardware and you need to find a combination that works for you.

does anyone have anyexperience changing from usb to firewire?? is it a data transfer problem leading to buffer underruns?

has anyone found a better dvd writing software than nero specifically for ext dvd burners?
