Memorex can be good, but as you can read here they use different sources and can vary. Most here would avoid them. the Sony's should have been good, but there have been fakes. Use DVD ID to check them out.
http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

What burner do you have in your Dell.

Decrypter should be easy. I left all the settings under Tools on there defualts. When you get ready to burn select the burn speed. I would stay away from max. I started out with 2.4x, but now I use 4x.

Remember to delete the files if you do not have a lot of hard drive. Also, defrag after doing a few discs.

Just ran across a nice guide for Shrink.

Reproduction of any copyrighted material (even if you own the orginal) is illegal without permission. I not here to tell anyone what they should do.

pointman1, click on my computer, right click on your disc drive and select propperties. Click on the hardrare tab. The model is listed for your dvd(s).

As for speed, most here would recommend to burn at 4x or less just to avoid problems. There seems to be an increase in problems at higher speeds.

Yes the files Shrink created are the ones you what to delete when you are finished. If you are burning one copy, you can tick on the DVD Decrypter opition to delete the file when done burning the disc. There are no hidden files. You will know quickly if you don't. At 5GB per movie you will fill up a hard drive fast.

Nero has an app (DVD tab-select extras) to test what the real preformance of your burner.
Gald to hear your burnihg away.
P.S. Nero can also tell you all you need to know about your burner. Just click on the Get Sys Info in the extras section.

Actually, it isn't a problem in Finland, where this site is based and it's perfectly fine to talk about it, even to recommend it in this forum. It's the opinion here that whatever pple do, it is probably legeal where they live. As it was explained by the Admin's spokes person, if you download it before it's released you are doing so only to preview it as you plan to see it and to purchase it later hence, no monies are lost to those with a copyright. If you copy a rental, I can only imagine that since you watched it, you are only re-enforcing your memory and since rental monies were paid, again, no monies were lost to those with the copyright.

I hope that clears that up -

Cheers all,

Pete

can i successful make backup copies of my episodic dvd's? cause when i was using x copy, it never worked. thanks

oh, and as far as copying from bb, i never said i did that... i merely enjoy making copies of my homevideos and my own personal collection. no need to try and convict me or anyone else for something.

pointman1,
Just out of curiosity, what is the media code of the memorex media you are useing? Some issues you can have burning at faster speeds are freezing or pixelating during playback or read errors.

Yes you can make copies of episodic dvds with shrink. The guides will show you how. That is write speed.

pointman1,
Use dvd identifier that rroettger gave you the link to, to see who actually manufactured the memorex media. It will tell you manufacturer ID and manufacturer name. Memorex buys its media from several different companies. I'm curious as to who made yours.

Thats good. You got lucky. Thats why you have had good results with memorex. Probably not so next time since memorex buys its media from several manufacturers. Ya, Ricohjpn is top notch, but why take a chance with memorex. Next time it might be cmc magnetics (bottom of the barrel).

Taiyo Yuden is the best but some other good ones are Verbatum, Maxell, Ricohjpn, and Ritek. Some people like Prodisc I have never used them so can't comment. I'm suprised you've had problems with Sony. They are usually pretty good unless you got some fakes. What is the media code of the Sony's?

Pointman 1 you may need to flash your firmware. You must make sure that it is for your model or your drive will become a nice doorstop. cdfreaks is where I find my drive firmware updates. Updating the firmware usually makes the drive more compatible to more media types. There is also hacked firmware can make certain 4x drives burn at 8x. Be sure and follow the flash instructions and you should have 0 problems. You may want to search the net to see if teac has a site with the firmware updates. When you identified your drive it should have told you the firmware version so make sure that you are indeed updating to a newer firmware if you decide to do so.
edit: soory bro no new firmware for that one but if it becomes availible you can find it here:
