I just got a sony double layer DVd burner installed.
It came with Nero and I read where it says "just click drag, and burn, you can't go wrong." Not really.
If someone has the time, please give me some simple answers to these questions.
Q: can I use older application like Roxio Suite to burn double layer DVd's, or must I use the Nero that came with it.
Q: All I want to do is burn my captured Music DVD(source) to MPEG2 onto a DVD+R or DVD-R. Why is it so complex? I captured it to MPEG2 but Nero "express" (ha ha) only wants to see IFO, VOB,
Q: Will newer Nero application automatically auto-complete all phases of burning; such as Encoding, transcoding, creating image file, and burning?
PLEASE SOMEONE BREAK IT DOWN VERY SIMPLY. I have 4 mpeg files at 900mb each , and I Nero WON'T BURN'EM. !
"ok, talk to me like I'm a 9 year old."

Had same problem. Go to your burners website and see if they have a firmware upgrade. This worked for me.

Hyperion - it may be the case that you don't need a new writer. have you tried burning a standard cd?

Jimmyfro5, DVDs are compiled from VOB, BUP, and IFO files take your MPEG2 file and use a tool such as TMPGEnc DVD author or DVD LAB PRO to compile the DVD structures. You can then import theses into Nero for burning.
Just out of curiosity but is the music your burning DVD Audio?

I got exactly the same problem/error, mine is a Memorex F16 double layer, the new one. I finally found that the problem was Nero, I reinstalled it 20 times, deleting everything first. I updated the firmware also.
Nothing worked, when I was ready to return it, I tried other software, CloneDVD and CloneCD, no problems at all, I finished what I needed to do, I lost 21 DVD's trying to burn them with Nero, but 0 with those programs I just mentioned.
Are those programs the best? Have no idea, the only thing I can say, they work.

I know that Nero can be funny with WinXP SP2, although i believe the latest releases address this problem, other than that i can't really say what the problem is.

THE ANSWER
I had the same problem, it's the cd's or dvd's not a hardware that is the problem. My problem was with princo DVD-R a bad batch it there manufacturing. Get new disks and try again (with different batch number).

My problem with Nero this message appears on start up:
Under Windows NT4 Administrator rights are required by Nero to access CD recorders and CD/ROM / DVD/ROM drives. Please ask your system administrator to use Nero.
Can someon help me?

Hi Hyperion,
You indicate that you have this issue with 3 different programs...Programs used:
Nero Burning ROM
CopytoDVD SE
1Click DVD Copy
All of these give me the error that they cannot write to sector 0, and eject the disc.
This would indicate software is not an issue, as if it were only one would have the issue. Your recorder may need service. I would suggest trying to clean the optical head on your recorder to see if this provides a quick fix. Sometimes just blowing compressed air in the drive will do the trick.
Hi Dwilha,
All Recording programs work in this fashion. You must have Admin rights to burn. You can have your Admin download the Nero BurnRights utility and set up a User Group with these rights, and assign you to that group so you can burn while not logged in as Admin.

Hi TDY,
Could you explain what exactly the problem is? What error message are you getting?
Better yet, a copy of the Nero log file would help. :-)
Does this issue only occur on with a copied movie? Does it only occur when doing 'On the Fly' copies?
Regards,
Craig

Thanks TDY.
I'll generate a bug report tonight, and test myself on Thursday if I get a chance.
I only have one day, as I'm back on the road on Friday.

Craig
