Hi all,

I'm VERY new at this. I've got the HP100i CD+RW drive and have managed to rip the .vob files down to my hard drive using Clad DVD. I now want to copy the files back to a DVD+RW disc for use on a set-top box. Can anyone tell me if this is possible using Clad DVD??.....the .vob files only amount to 4.1gb so I've plenty of space on the DVD+RW disc (4.7gb).

All help is greatly appreciated.

Do you own a DVD+RW recorder? CD+RW and DVD+RW don't have anything to do together, you need to have a DVD writer if you need to make a DVD+RW (or DVD-R, DVD-RW or DVD+R) -- they normally cost in U.S. from $300 to $600. And no, cladDVD is not enough for this process, read through our forums to get more info.

There are tons of threads that discuss about DVD -> DVD-R copying in these forums, use search and browse through the forums.

Basically this is what you should do:

-rip the movie -- if it's small one (so it fits to 4.36GB with all the VOBs), use DVD Decrypter's feature that allows you to create UDF/ISO image and burn it with Nero using UDF/ISO DVD format
-if the main movie is less than 4.36GB (4.7GB is manufacturer's b.s. hype, they count billions of bytes, not multiplies of 2 like computers do, so one DVD-R/RW only fits 4.36GB), but with the extras it takes more, rip just the main movie (use SmartRipper) and create new IFOs for the movie using IFOEdit and burn the VIDEO_TS directory using Nero's UDF/ISO format
-if the main movie takes slightly more than 4.36GB, like 5GB, rip the main movie and use VOBRator to extract unnecessary streams (like Chinese subtitles and German audio) out of the VOBs and create new IFOs using IFOEdit and burn the thing with Nero

Have downloaded guides and have stripped to just the film. Have used IFOEdit to edit the IFO files. Got VTS sectors on all three ifo files (Video_ts, VTS_01_0 and VTS05_0) and saved them.

Burnt the Video_TS folder to DVD using Nero and have received an error message on playback.

Error Code: 89030000 Unknown File Format.

Can you shed some light on what I may be doing wrong?. When I updated the VTS sectors on
VTS_01_0.ifo it prompted to save it as VTS_05_0.ifo so I changed it back to VTS_01_0.ifo. Was this correct as the guide said I should save each IFO file thus creating a backup copy.

Rob.

Look at the doom9 URL above, it gives you instructions for making 1:1 DVD backups.

calcat: Not much to do -- either split it to 2 DVD-Rs (or double-sided/flipper DVD-R) or re-encode it using ReMPEG2 (you lose quality).

I encountered something odd after rencoding star wars :The Phantom
menace with rempeg.

Down near the final third of the movie I started to see random blue &
red squares popping up all over the screen .....occupying about 10% of
the screen at any given time.

Remeg was set at 63% to give 3.7Mbits/sec to fit the movie at 4GB. I used predictive and match source settings. I ran it under win98 on a PII 450 ....22hours!!.

Any thoughts?

Have downloaded guide Split DVD to 2 DVD-R from doom9.org. Dvd Decryptor part was OK. IfoEdit 0.9 gave me problem right away when I followed guide and created two directory for 2 DVD-R. IfoEdit was looking into those directories for IFO file instead of VIDEO_TS folder. Need more info on this step in DVD Copying.
