why is NERO so fussy?

I really dont consider myself a nub, ( over 150 burns)
but recently installed NERO, to copy some copies. I recently purchased riddick, backed it up, then sold the original to a friend. Now I want to copy the copy , and nero wont read the disc. I also tried shrink and no go there either. I then put another movie copy in all of them and it worked fine.
The ironic part is that the Riddick copy is brand new. never even been played in a machine. ( After the problem i did try it and it played fine).

Any ideas? or suggestions? or is this whole copying process a hit or miss?
