Hey

Leaving the 160Gb alone on the IDE channel, connect a drive with a working operating system to the other channel with a cd. Boot to the O/S and follow this...

Start
Right click MY Computer
Manage
Disk Management-you should see the 160Gb on the right
Right Click the Disk-you may have to Initialize if the disk is new.
Delete the Drive-if you have the option
R Click disk again and choose Partition
R Click again and choose Format

You should be ready to install O/S

In the disk managemet the drives are all numbered - be sure to setup Bios to boot to the right HD#.

Your boot sequence should be something like:
1 Floppy
2 cd rom
3 HD# western digital

If everything goes right you can remove the other disk when 160 is set with O/S.

Hey

Can you see the drive in Device Manager?

Start
Right click MY Computer
Manage
Device Manager
expand Disk Drives on the right

If it's there Right click
Properties-- what does it say?

Do the same for IDE/ATA Controllers
Right Click Primary IDE
Properties
Advanced Settings--is the controller set up for Autodetect? If not try to change.

Do the same for the Secondary IDE

Hey

If the 160Gb is in Bios and ok in Device Manager then it should be in My Computer and Disk Management.

Double check if you can find it in either My Computer or Disk Management.

What drives can you see in Disk Management? Make sure to scroll all the way down in the drive screen.

If you see C it should be Drive 0
The Drive 1 should be the 160GB

Right click the Disk 1 and choose Initialize.
Right click the Disk 1 and choose Format.

If there is any justice you will see the drive in My Computer.

Then what is Drive C? How many hard drives do you have installed? I hope it's two.

What is the size of the C drive in Disk Management?
What is the size of drive 1.?
