Hi Before going to the problem I'm facing, i want to mention that I'm a frequent vistor to the forums and this is the BESTplace to learn about DVD's.
I'm currently facing a lot of problem writing DVD - R, I have never had errors befor in the last one year, but started around 2 months back. I'm running Windows XP, have loaded all ASPI drivers, tried LG 4040B writer, the BenQ writer and now have an HP 630i DVD writer but the same problem, I have tried most writing softwares, including Ulead, NeoDVD, DVD Lab, Sonic Record Now, Intervideo DVD creator...all give practically the same kind of errors. The errors are....Disk gets written only around 10% or mavbe 25%...sometimes even 98% and then the writer just spits out the disk indicating error. I have lost around 50..thats right fifty DVD's, I have also tried different brands of DISK's,...reinstalled Windows XP after fulling formatting the drive...same errors. My system config is the HP 525C. Someone please help. Thanks - Nelson

@bbmayo,
Quote:
Your main problem would be that you said you are using -R disks. Your DVD drive is only compatable with +R and +RW.... Try some +R Disks..
Where did you find that at?
I found this....

I found it here at HP's own web sight
http://www.shopping.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpdirect/shopping/scripts/product_detail/product_detail_view.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0290099884.1101581855@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccehadddeihlihmcfngcfkmdflldfjk.0&category=dvd_writers&subcat1=dvd_writers&catLevel=3&product_code=Q6759A%23ABA
I always check with the manufacturer first. By the way I don't believe any HP writer are compatable with -R's I have yet to see one, but that could have something to do with HP, and Sony owning the rights to +R...

Good luck, and just try a +R disk you will be suprised :-)

I have the same issue. The prob with the drive is that the disc is only being read as having 4.482 of space instead of 4.7. I usually use Nero to burn discs. I change the setting so that Nero only burns 4.4GB instead of 4.5GB and since have had no probs burning +R, but have no -R to try with. Also I have not been able to get the drive to burn faster than 2x,

DVDRs don't actually have 4.7 Gig on them. That rating is based on the Japanese GB which is only 1000MB vs. the US GB which is 1024 MB.

DVDs and hard drives are generally rated in Japanese GB to make them sound bigger. True KB, MB and GB are multiples of 1024. 1KB = 1024 Bytes, 1MB = 1,048,576 Bytes and 1GB = 1,073,741,824 Bytes.
