Certain DVD's Freeze DVD drive

My mom just got back from Hong Kong with a few DVD movies. I have only tested a few and some work, some dont. For example when i put "Shrek 2" in either my dvd burner or my stand alone DVD player it just freezes the play and i must remove the DVD. I have tried DVD Region Free and set it to china and other regions but still same thing happens. I have also tried AnyDVD. Any other suggestions. I have a HP DVD 420i(n) (not sure which one, says 420i on box, but 420n in properties). Any help would be appriciated.
