Yes, I do not post a question without finding out if it's been answered before. After browsing 18 pages of posts, I still find no answer to my following question.
As I was trying to rip the "Saving Private Ryan" DVD, (region 1) using SmartRipper v2.39, it told me if was unable to read major .vob files.
I have tried the neccessary procedures like playing the DVD first, but all of it didn't work. Therefore, my conclusion is that the DVD is PROTECTED. However, I would really like to rip it and convert it to a VCD so that I can view it as often as I want without damaging the DVD.
So, my question is, is there any software out there that can "bypass", "crack", or "unlock" the .vob files that are protected?

There's no way that DVD movies could have anything else except regular CSS encryption -- problem that occurs every now and then is with SmartRipper that it doesn't find the CSS key from the disc and all of our guides have a very simple instruction how to get over this problem -- launch SmartRipper, launch PowerDVD, watch 1-3mins of the ___actual movie___ (not the trailers, etc -- they're normally NOT CSS encrypted), close PowerDVD and try to rip it.
