This sure as hell is just a ripped off copy of BitComet with the "Favorites" pane changed to the search engine and a different icon. You can even see in the preferences, it adds ".bc!" to unfinished torrents! Uhh, bc? That's the extension from BitComet.

Bitlord is not a ripoff of BitComet if I remember BitComet is a port forwarding bittorrent client. The Bitlord is a GUI which was made that way for different internet connections. The Bitlord is the first bittorrent client with a search function. It might make the file associations the same as BitComet and have a similar interface, but is not built the same.It has a new core build,it is just different than BitComet. You can't really say a program is a ripoff for file associations,if that is true then I could name alot of bittorrent programs that are ripoffs in file associations 0_o.I could careless as for file association also.I look for speed out of programs, and if they send the real files or not.I have seen some BT clients that suck and send false files which slows you down quite a bit.

As far as I can tell, BitLord is a ripoff of BitComet. They've taken BitComet and modified it to put in a Search pane.
The interface is nearly identical. The Preferences pane IS identical. All the stats and options are identical. It takes about 5 seconds seeing them side by side to see that one is direct ripoff of the other.
Sure, it has search built in, but it also links you through to porn sites and stuff, probably so the BitLord guys can cash in on referrals. And who exactly is giving you the search results? It just uses an embedded web page for the search area, so why not just load up a searching web page yourself in a separate browser and choose which search engine you want to use.
And to dispell any rumours, BitComet is NOT open source, although it IS free for personal use. No spyware, adware, popups.

Install them both and see for yourself. I know I will use BitComet.

I have changed to BitLord from Azureus and so far I am still undecided. One thing though, the search function won't work now that youceff have dropped off the face of the planet.

Hmmmm....the search function is easier than opening up a browser and going to it everytime you want to search for something(probably runs off the bt search sites). The porn sites you mentioned are not noticed in my opinion. They have a porn site, but who cares unless you click on it(doesn't make a difference if you open the program up,porn sites don't come up unless click on them). The program you mentioned bitcomet is a port forwarding BT client, all I did was open up bitlord and I was ready to DL/UL instead of finding what ports to use and all this nonesense that is needed it is called GUI which makes it better than bitcomet.Although it does have a problem with DSL users which means you have to limit your upload and download speed(which would be the same as bitcomet),but still the program is not bad like you mentioned phipple. The program Bitlord is adware, freeware, and doesn't include popups why do you think it has these so called parasites you are mentioning.I don't see one thing wrong with this client, and like I said before comparing Bitlord and Bitcomet doesn't make a difference. They might look the same as for interface, but still there are changes in Bitlord which you still haven't looked at phipple. To be honest use what is best for you I am not forcing you to use a program you don't like, but for the people that actually do like it there is no need to start a rumor saying that Bitlord is a ripoff(ripoff=identicle ,between these two programs no they are not identicle). If you like the program then use it,if not then who cares just move on and use a different one, which is what you did right.

Nicely put L-Burna. I am trying BitLord because of what you had mentioned earlier in the month about it. I haven't been doing a lot of downloading of late due to one thing and another, but what i have seen is that performance wise it seems OK. I think that at the end of the day, it all depends n how many people are sharing the file to begin with (although I started out with TorrentStorm and it was crap), and with the problems that torrent files are having at the moment this may get worse instead of better.

Yeah I agree ktulu14 this is a really bad time for bittorrent. It may get worse real soon, but something might come along and change things for the better,it seems this has happened before with other programs. Then something different comes out and puts everything back in place like it used to be,this is what I think will happen.I could be wrong though, but normally from looking in the past from other programs failing a new one always arrives and makes everything better.

L-Burna, have you had any experience with the Bearshare program? A mate of mine has started using it but I am unfamiliar at the moment. He says it is as good as the torrent if not better (then again he has a 1 meg line).

Well, I think you mean "identical" first of all..

Second, a ripoff does not mean identical, it means it's ripped off. If we were talking about it being identical we would say it was identical.

EVERYTHING is the same in this program EXCEPT the search function, which is just a replacement of the favorites pane with a search page. That's all. Everything else is exactly the same.

I think you're confusing yourself here. GUI means Graphical User Interface. BitComet and BitLord BOTH have GUIs. Windows is/has a GUI. Your web browser is/has a GUI. If they didn't they would be text-based programs. As far as BitComet and BitLord, both GUIs are identical. The preferences are identical, even the extension it adds to unfinished files are identical (.bc!). You would think that if this was a program that was written from scratch, they would NOT use an extension which is an acronym for BitComet. If you refuse to see that then I don't know what else to say, but I think the majority of people see the obvious similarities to not tell it is a blatant ripoff.

As far as having to set up ports and all that, BitComet doesn't require that. I have installed and used both (BitComet is my regular client) side by side, they both install and set up the same. In fact, if you look around in the BitLord preferences (if I remember correctly - I'm not at home at the moment) there are options to set up which port to listen on, just like BitComet. The only differences are the program name, the icon, and the search page loaded in the left pane in BitLord, which is just a simple replacement of the favorites pane in BitComet.

I still don't think the programs are the same, and yeah I would consider a ripoff identical.I don't care man to be honest like I said either one works so I have no problem with either one.I don't see how BitComet is the same as Bitlord or why would anyone build the program if they where going to make an exact program makes no sense man, embedded features that BitComet does not have.I think you are just trying to say they are the same program, but you can see that the features of them both are not the same. The system is built different which is not the same. When I said GUI I meant as for Port Mapping BitComet doesn't support GUI Port Mapping which means you have to forward ports or you will not download at all.I used both programs and I know they look similiar like you mentioned, but it is only the interface and maybe extensions. If you go by this then there are alot more programs that look identical as for interface. If you look at the BitTornado program and the official bittorrent client they look almost the same, but they are not right. The BitTornado program has embedded features that are mentioned. The program BitComet does actually need to be port forwarded it depends on your internet connection, which you probably had that was compatible with it.The BitLord was made GUI port mapping for every connection which BitComet lacks is what I am saying.I would probably say it is not completely a ripoff, but it does have alot of similarities to the program BitComet.I don't disagree with you on this BitLord did take the same interface and has the same extensions.

Nah man I meant a feature that BitComet doesn't support GUI Port Mapping.I should have made it more clear when I said that. The reason this was important to me though is the reason that this program is compatible with my internet connection. The other BT programs are not compatible with my internet connection, which means I have to use port forwarding with the other BT clients with no choice.I used BitComet before, and it did the same thing as all the other BT programs did.It just blocked me out and wouldn't give me an option to download at all.As for picking internet connection and Mapping the right ports I would say BitLord, where as BitComet was only made for certain internet connections.

You are correct in saying that BitComet doesn't support "GUI Port Mapping", but this is only because the phrase "GUI Port Mapping" doesn't make a lot of sense. It seems you are still confused about the meaning of GUI - read grivad's post again.
In any case, BitComet supports automatic Windows XP NAT/Firewall configuration in ICS/ICF, and UPnP Port Mapping. Perhaps these are the features you are referring to? I'm not sure how these features work, but as I understand it they allow BitComet to open up a listen port on a router/firewall and map it back to itself so that BitComet can accept incoming connections without the user having to manually configure the router/firewall. The upshot is that users can open up a file sharing program like BitComet (or BitLord), and still be able to accept the oh-so-important incoming connections from other peers. And as I mentioned, BitComet, like BitLord, supports these features.
Quote:

Well I can't explain that without any further details on how you were 'blocked out', but perhaps it's something to do with the default setting for ICS/ICF firewall configuration and UPnP Port Mapping. - I can't remember the default settings for either BitLord or BitComet.
Annnnyway. I guess I just want anyone reading this thread to be aware that the similarities between BitLord and BitComet are remarkable to say the least, and that it's not just me and a few other's in this thread who think so (see these threads on the BitComet forums ... http://www.p2pforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=8074
and http://www.p2pforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=7998)
And I strongly encourage everyone reading this to try both BitComet and BitLord before deciding which one is a ripoff of the other (if at all), and which one is easier/better/faster (if at all).

Well whatever,I was using GUI as automatic, but it could be considered the same thing since it is referring to opening up in Windows automatically.I know why BitComet didn't work for me and it was my internet connection it wasn't compatible with it,that is why I switched.

I wasn't blocked out I had my firewall turned off of my router, opened the right ports. The program would just freeze and wouldn't do anything.

Well I just downloaded bitlord and sure it's an okay program, but the spyware and adware in there is unreal LOL. They also change some entry in your hosts file so that if your homepage was auto.msn whatever the default page is then it takes you to their site since the host file checks there for an address first.
So take your chances with it since it is really bitcomet revamped a little to be "completely" different :) I know L-Burna seems very eager to use the program and I am not saying it's bad....I am just saying beware. If you know a little about computers you will notice the adware and the hots file change, but if you're fine with that then by all means use away.

Well, I just gotta add my two cents. I have every BT client out there, and tried them all too.

With my set-up, 10Mbps cable connection, no router,
Bitlord has given me the best D/L speeds.

And yes, I took the time to download a 50mb file with a high number of seeds, using each client to compare,
Bitlord won hands down!

Gotta admit though, I'm no programmer by any means, but doesn't Bitlord look just like Bit Comet?

Yeah I agree Weycraze the program looks like BitComet by the interface.I do think that there are some touch ups on this program though.I got the same results Weycraze compared them both and got better speeds off BitLord.I am not saying either program is bad,but just saying there are some touch ups with BitLord that are not mentioned. It never really made sense to me why someone would build the same program.
