Hey

Your computer cannot burn DVD's.

A DVD/CD Writer combo means it can WRITE CD's and only READ DVDs.

The Regular CD-ROM can only READ CD's and NOT DVDs.

So that is why you cant burn DVD's.

You will need to purchase a DVD Burner if you want to Burn DVD's.

The information would have helped considerably if you did some homework and understood what you were buying before you purchased the system.

As ddp and cjc have advised, you cannot burn DVD's with this system.

Please let us know what you found out. I just spent a good long time with HP support. I have on older version and a different dvd writer/cd writer (hp300c). I didn't have this problem before. Mine recognizes cds but not a dvd of any kind (store bought or the dvds I burned last year). The tech thought it might be the windows sp2 causing it but couldn't work it out and then thought it might be the drive itself. Of course, she thought we could try to restore the computer as it was fresh out of the factory and start from scratch (not my first choice).

Hi Ph0Bolus, What type blank dvd media are you trying to use? If they are -R blanks I don't think you drive can use them. You listed it as a Lite-On +R burner. Could this be your problem???

I called them and he said my second drive is strictly Cd-rom and cant read dvd's. The burners for like data dvd's pictures and stuff like that. Now comes a new problem i replaced the cd-rom drive with a dvd-rom and now my comp wont recognize any of the drives.. :(

Hey

Check your jumper settings -- the settings on the drive that was removed should be the setting for the new drive providing you didn't change anything else.
See if the drives are detected in the Bios after you jumper.

Hey

Chek the drive that you removed. On the back where the power connector and the data cable attach is a small double row of pins. Does this have a little plastic jumper covering two pins?
