sound problem when playing dvds on computer

hi guys.

i hope in the correct forum.
if not then maybe a mod can move this thread?

i'm having a problem with the sound when i try to watch a dvd on my computer.
picture is ok the the sound is choppy, distorted, and with static.

i was having not problems with the sound.
then i went to unistall in the dvd drive and reinstall the drive.
so in less then 2 minutes, my sound problem started.
i can play audio cds on this drive no problem.
but when i go to play a dvd, the sound is for crap.

i checked my connections and everything seems to be good.
before i go and buy a dvd cleaner, is there something else i should look into?
